NORTHAMPTON Elementary School Nurse - Campus School of Smith College Job Summary Work with school administration to develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure the health and well-being of Campus School students. Respond to the daily and ongoing medical and health needs of students. Minimum Qualifications Education/Experience: RN licensure, BSN, 3+ years of nursing experience that includes working with elementary school age children, CPR and first aid certified. Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications Experience in an elementary school setting strongly preferred Skills Medical expertise, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with elementary age children, parents, teachers and staff in an effective and supportive manner. Ability to work independently and as a cooperative member of a team; ability to be flexible; good organizational skills. Essential Functions (60%): Respond to and keep accurate records of student illness, medical needs and injuries as they occur during the school day. Administer medication to students and maintain compliance with Massachusetts DPH for Medication Administration Delegation and Training Registration with the state. Administer yearly vision and hearing screening. Communicate with parents and faculty regarding illnesses, vaccination requirements, chronic conditions and/or injury of students. Oversee June program health and safety procedures and student health needs. (25%): Consult with teachers, parents and Campus School staff regarding concerns about the students\' general health and well-being. Review and maintain student emergency health information and documentation. Oversee and maintain student health records and monitor compliance with Massachusetts state laws. Take the lead in training Campus School staff as needed to respond to the health and medical needs of individual students. This includes but is not limited to mandated annual health trainings such as anaphylaxis/epi-pen and blood borne pathogens training. The school nurse is also responsible for creating, maintaining, and appropriately distributing individualized health care plans for students with qualifying health care needs. As necessary, consult with the fifth and sixth grade teachers on health and wellness instruction. (10%): Annually review and revise as necessary protocols and procedures for responding to illnesses, medical emergencies and students with chronic conditions, in consultation with the school administration and the consulting physician. Maintain, review and revise school physician agreement and standing orders/medical directives in consultation with school physician annually and as needed. Maintain the nurse?s station, medical supplies and medication dispensing cabinet. Other Functions (5%): Act as a key member of the school crisis management team. Maintain school\'s medical emergency response plan as required by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Work collaboratively with college health personnel to coordinate policies and health treatment plans when necessary.
