NANA Regional Corporation Specialist, Insulator in North Slope/Prudhoe Bay, Alaska

Job Description

Apply insulating material and sheet metal to exposed surfaces of structures such as hot and cold pipes, storage tanks, and cold storage rooms by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

  • Reads blueprints and selects required insulation material (in sheet, tubular, or roll form), such as fiberglass, foam rubber, Styrofoam, cork, or urethane, based on material's heat retaining or excluding characteristics.

  • Brushes adhesives on or attaches metal adhesive-backed pins to flat surfaces as necessary to facilitate application of insulation material.

  • Measures and cuts insulation material to specified size and shape for covering flat or round surfaces.

  • Fits, wraps, or attaches required insulation material around or to structure, following blueprint specifications.

  • Covers or seals insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, tape or sheet metal jackets to secure insulation to structure, according to type of insulation used and structure covered.

  • Inspects assemblies and installation for conformance to specification.

  • Proficient at erecting scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Minimum one (1) year directly related experience.

Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy preferred.

Individuals working under this contract will be exposed to and handling Asbestos Containing Material (ACM). As a result, all workers will be part of the medical surveillance program. The company-paid Baseline Asbestos physical includes chest x-ray with B-Reader, PFT, respiratory clearance, and basic physical. Those individuals that have previously worked with asbestos, will be required to have an exit exam from their prior employer before the baseline exam can be conducted by NANA Construction.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to extreme cold. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear, and frequently required to stand; walk and sit.

Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Must be able to use and maintain the tools of the trade such as band saw, bending breaks, shears, hand tools and banding tools.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Must be able to pass 40hr OSHA Asbestos Mitigation.

Must be able to pass fit test to wear a respirator.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, write simple correspondence, present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry, apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
