Job Summary and Qualifications

  • The Clinical Nurse Manager, under the general supervision of the Director of Perioperative Services, assumes administrative and technical responsibility, 24-hours/day, 7-days/week for specified functions in the Unit.

  • In collaboration with the Director and the Medical Directors of the Unit, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in these Units by all levels of practitioners.

  • The Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible for managing all assigned personnel, supplies, and equipment. Actively participates in the selection, evaluation, counseling of staff development and termination of unit personnel.

  • Functions as a resource person for staff members and assists in necessary education of individual members of the nursing staff with a focus on promoting clinical competency.

  • Assists with unit education.

  • Responsible for assisting with preparation and planning of budget needs for Surgical Services.

  • Works closely with nursing schools, students and their instructors.

  • Must meet the position responsibilities for Staff RN for their unit.

  • Makes decisions regarding activities within this area based on Hospital Administrative Policies, Human Resource Policies, Department of Nursing Policies, and the individual Unit Standards with collaboration with the Director or the Medical Director in unusual situations.

  • The manager will actively participate in departmental and house wide performance improvement activities as well as core Measures initiatives, and assists in data collection as directed by Management.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Minimum of (5) years of clinical practice in provision of clinical nursing of the perioperative patient and/or nursing of the critically ill patient with emphasis on leadership and management experience.

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with minimum of BSN.

  • Current Texas licensure with State Board of Nurse Examiners.

  • Current CPR certification.

  • Current ACLS certification.

  • CNOR preferred.

  • Demonstrated current clinical competence, as outlined in the appropriate orientation checklist.

  • Maintains current clinical competence.

  • Maintains knowledge of all patient care equipment.
