Position Overview

The primary purpose of the Director of Transportation is to lead a transportation team that oversees all store delivery and transportation support operations for a specific region; to develop and implement strategies focused on optimizing P&L performance; and provide our customers with an excellent customer experience. The Director will work collaboratively with inbound, planning, warehouse, procurement, and other teams to maintain alignment on cross functional goals and targets. This position is also responsible for identifying and developing the talents and skills required for running the business, as well as, developing talent and succession plans.

• Responsible for all execution of store delivery activity and other activity (transfers, storage pullbacks, reverse logistics, etc.) that occurs on a daily basis utilizing private and/or 3rd party dedicated resources.

• Maintain strong alignment between field operations, routing, and process/planning sub functions to allow for efficient use of resources while providing service (On Time Delivery) at or above contractual levels or regional goals.

• Ensure that regional and local leadership is operating at the expected levels of productivity, safety, and overall compliance with company expectations.

• Develop and communicate clear expectations for team members. Challenge team to continually improve and take on new tasks to broaden their experience and abilities. Communicate performance against expectations not only on mid-year and end of year reviews, but on an as needed basis to ensure that team has proper direction and feedback.

• Build and maintain strong relationship with all major customers in the region. Participate in store visits, customer top to top meetings, transportation summits, and other engagements to stay close to understanding their needs as a business and how the Transportation operation can support their needs and drive value to their business.

• Partner with the carrier management function for non-dedicated 3rd party carrier needs (shuttles, large capacity constraints, surge needs, etc.).

• Support inbound/procurement Service Level needs and Backhaul Net Margin needs via the utilization of fleet & dedicated resources.

• Warehouse: Grocery Warehouse (50F to 90F)

• Warehouse: Freezer (-20F to 0F)

Skills

• Specialized Knowledge: Knowledge of computer systems, both PC based (MS Suite), as well as familiarity of transportation systems (Manhattan, FourKites) is preferred.

• Special Skills: Ability to partner cross-functionally, Strong multi-tasking, communication and organizational skills. Ability to work well with all levels of team members with different backgrounds and needs

Years Of Experience

• 8-10 years of relevant experience. Experience with Supply Chain, Transportation and Warehouse Operations a plus.
