Job Description

Manager AbbVie Technology Licensing & Collaborations (TLC)

Overall responsibilities include partnering with AbbVie R&D to effectively negotiate and execute a variety of research and development agreements. In concert with the champion sponsoring a particular transaction, develop framework of major terms, determine negotiation strategies and work to drive execution of priority agreements. Manage and support less complex agreement process within a matrix organization, providing both scientific and licensing experience.

Responsibilities.

  1. Work with the TLC Director, who is the single point of contact for the assigned Therapeutic Area and/or R&D Functional area, and proactively with internal teams (such as R&D and Search & Evaluation) as a partner to effectively define contracting/licensing strategy.

  2. Provide high level scientific support within TLC on protocols, appropriate deliverables and timelines for agreements.

  3. In conjunction with the AbbVie Business Legal team, negotiate, draft, and execute complex agreements (such as sponsored research and consortia agreements, material transfer, technology feasibility studies and licenses, companion diagnostic collaborations and membership agreements), which may involve proposing major terms, drafting term sheets and developing effective negotiation strategies.

  4. Manage interactions with external parties (working cooperatively with the broader AbbVie business development functions, including Search & Evaluation, Ventures and Business Development & Acquisitions, to determine roles/responsibilities) and provide alliance management support for both new and legacy R&D agreements that do not otherwise garner “assigned” Alliance Management support.

  5. Proactively communicate status of negotiations with key stakeholders.

  6. Work cooperatively as a team with the broader AbbVie business development functions to effectively execute agreements in furtherance of AbbVie’s R&D strategies.

  7. Ensure compliance with R&D Procurement delegation, including signatory authority and its delegation, and ensure TLC’s compliance with all applicable Purchasing, Office of Ethics & Compliance, R&D, Finance, Legal and Corporate policies.

  8. Promote AbbVie as a partner of choice in all external communications and dealings, and work to build the AbbVie brand.

Qualifications

  • Five years of life science or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.

  • Science background, contract drafting, and negotiation experience required (B.S., M.S., Ph.D.). J.D., M.B.A., C.L.P. or equivalent licensing experience/designation desirable.

  • Expert knowledge of multidisciplinary operations.

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing complex processes and high impact projects.

  • Excellent cross-functional negotiating skills and multi-faceted operational skills.

  • Ability to communicate/present key information to senior/executive management.
