AbbVie Director, Strategic Initiatives, Asset Strategy in North Chicago, Illinois
Purpose:
As a strategic initiatives lead, you will work closely with Asset Leadership senior leaders to drive mission-critical initiatives that will make a real difference for AbbVie’s patients, while positioning our company for sustained top-tier growth. You will report to the Vice President of Asset Leadership and JAPAC Development as part of the Asset Leadership organization.
Responsibilities:
Partner with, and take direction from, Asset Leadership Head and TA VPs to lead prioritized pan-TA, pan-asset, disease focus and/or geographical strategic initiatives translating strategic vision into tactical action. This could include supporting the development and implementation of JAPAC initiatives, above asset/disease area strategies, and departmental/corporate initiatives.
Bring rigorous conceptual thinking to answer key TA-level questions leveraging internal and external intelligence and resources as required.
Monitor, understand and prioritize external trends of relevance to the enterprise, and help determine how AbbVie should prepare and/or respond.
Provide targeted support for AbbVie’s long-range strategic planning processes, including helping leaders shape their therapeutic and disease area strategic plans.
Prepare and, as appropriate, present updates to senior leaders and manage cross-functional senior stakeholders to ensure alignment on pan-TA strategic initiative goals.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., medicine, sciences, MBA) preferred
A minimum of 4 years of experience required, 10+ years of experience preferred, with healthcare and/or biopharma industry experience
Broad industry knowledge, including working understanding of the drug discovery, development and commercialization cycle, and basic knowledge of adjacent industries
Exceptional problem-solving skills; ability to frame broad and ambiguous problems and tackle in a logical way; experience developing well-supported business cases
Strong communication skills – comfortable presenting to and influencing senior leaders; able to tell clear and compelling stories, distilling essential points to enable high-quality decisions
Collaboration – team player, can-do attitude; focused on success of working team and of AbbVie
Can thrive working in an ambiguous environment with little oversight or direction
Cross-functional leadership – able to set goals, define clear work plans, sustain momentum, and motivate quality contributions from diverse team members
