The Engineering Manager for Power Electronics provides power electronics and general engineering expertise and operates as the technical leader responsible for coordinating and overseeing design and technical activities of a product development team.

The Engineering Manager for Power Electronics will operate as a working member and leader of a team focused on the conceptualization, design, verification and release to manufacturing of hardware and firmware in support of Clean Energy Solutions products and systems.

This role is located in our Billerica MA office with regular travel (15% - 20%) to our S. Portland ME office or can also be based in S. Portland ME.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manage and grow a high-performing team of engineers and technicians specializing in the full development cycle of power electronics systems, including high power, high efficiency and innovative DC-DC converters and DC-AC inverters, and digital and analog design

Drive the architecture, topology, design, implementation and validation of power electronics systems

Evaluate and negotiate product/solution requirements, assimilate with strategic product and technology development roadmap and ensure alignment with team’s work

Develops deep knowledge of current and future products and provides technical guidance to the team

Creates and maintains a team culture which encourages innovation, collaboration, excitement, commitment, and a sense of urgency toward goals and continuous improvement

Fosters collaboration between engineering sites, sales, support, operations, finance, and other departments

Designs and directs the work of the team. Hires, coaches, and develops staff, sets clear expectations to inspire and motivate

Manages performance, recognizes achievement, provides feedback, and administers progressive constructive feedback when necessary

Ensures all product development or product improvement projects adhere to the technical, schedule, and cost constraints defined by project stakeholders

Develop innovative technology, tackle difficult problems, adhere to highest standards for design quality and reliability, and help deliver world-class power electronics solutions to our customer

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and or equivalent experience (10 +)

7+ years of relevant experience in power electronics or related field

3+ years of formal or informal direct team management or mentorship experience

Possess strong verbal and written communication skills through the preparation and presentation of technical reviews and program status.

Preferred Qualifications:

Thorough knowledge of electrical, computer and mechanical engineering theory and principles

Experience with new product development processes

Experience in battery energy storage systems

Experience with development and implementation of Distributed Energy Storage such as solar/PV inverters or wind turbines

Grid interconnect requirements experience

Experience with power electronics controls engineering

Experience with advanced processors for power electronics including TI TMS320 family

Experience with third party certifications and testing (e.g. NRTL, environmental, EMC)

Experience in documenting product design, test & validation results and for high volume manufacturing

Experience with PCB layout for high power electronics converters

Experience with integration of power electronics converters with mechanical and thermal systems

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to read, interpret or author documents such as product requirements, operating, maintenance safety, and procedure manuals

Leadership skills and the proven ability to lead a technical team

Knowledge of component and system test procedures

Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues

Ability to setup test systems and conduct tests on complex systems

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
