Choice Hotels Brand Strategy Intern, Extended Stay Segment (Hybrid) in North Bethesda, Maryland

Who are we looking for?

Choice Hotels, one of the world’s largest lodging franchisors, is currently seeking Interns for the 2024 Summer Season!! We have an exciting new opportunity for a Brand Strategy Intern in the Extended Stay Department.

Extended Stay is one of the hottest and fastest growing segments within the lodging sector due to its resiliency and profitability vs. traditional hotels. Choice acquired the fastest growing brand in the segment, WoodSpring Suites, in 2018, launched the first new brand in midscale extended stay in over a decade, Everhome Suites, in 2020, and is considered a leader and first mover in the space.

Many competitors have launched brands in the segment in the last 12 months creating an exciting, dynamic environment with significant developer interest, especially with institutional capital, private equity, and family offices. The Extended Stay segment is a strategic growth vector for Choice Hotels and our brand team is cross-functional with a dedicated focus on developing, leading, and executing strategies to drive growth and high performance across our portfolio of 450 open and operating hotels with 450+ additional hotels under development.

Our brand team is focused on developing strategies that position our brands for success in this increasingly competitive environment and leverage our strengths as a brand org and company to create sustainable sources of competitive advantage. As a Brand Strategy Intern, this role would have the opportunity to gain exposure and support initiatives across the commercial strategy, brand strategy, and brand activation functions.

Your Responsibilities

  • Assist with project planning and management for planned 2024 initiatives, including guest research and focus groups, brand program rollout, pilot tests, and customer acquisition strategies.

  • Monitor and develop overviews of key competitive activity utilizing public platforms to help inform future strategy.

  • Assist as needed with overall projects related to brand strategy and activation of Everhome Suites, WoodSpring Suites, MainStay Suites, and Suburban Studios.

  • Leverage available market and consumer research to develop ideas/strategies that could help drive more engagement with guests during and in between stays.

  • Identify potential extended stay influencers based on target guests and stay occasions and mechanisms to create virality through marketing.

  • Present recommendations to senior extended stay and segment leadership.

Your Experience, Skills & Competencies

  • Junior and Senior undergraduate students working towards a Bachelor’s degree; strong preference towards MBA candidates with an interest in pursuing a career in hospitality, real estate, or brand strategy.

  • Trustworthy with sensitive and confidential information.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Eager to learn, positive attitude, highly motivated.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Works well independently and as part of a team.

  • Experience working in the hospitality industry, helpful but not required.

Your Work Location

As our Brand Strategy Intern, Extended Stay Segment, you will be based in our beautiful, state-of-the-art worldwide corporate headquarters in North Bethesda, MD. Less than 15 miles from Washington, DC, we’re located one block away from the North Bethesda Metro station, with service on the Red Line and the MARC Brunswick line, easy access to I-270, and plenty of free parking provided by Choice Hotels.

Right now, our associates are working in a hybrid environment, mixing in office and virtual. Leaders will provide more direction upon expectations during the interview process.
