Robert Half Staff Accountant in Norfolk, Virginia

Description We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Staff Accountant to join our team based in Norfolk, Virginia. In this role, you will be tasked with reviewing and adjusting general ledger accounts, performing account analysis and reconciliation, and maintaining the general ledger chart of accounts. This role is a key part of our team, as you will also assist with internal control evaluations and post monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee general ledger accounts and make necessary adjustments to journal entries

• Conduct account analysis and reconciliation, including bank statements and intercompany general ledger accounts

• Maintain the general ledger chart of accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting

• Support internal control evaluations to identify operational efficiencies and manage risk

• Post monthly, quarterly and yearly accruals to keep records up-to-date

• Review financial statements for accuracy and legal compliance

• Prepare income tax returns and corporate reporting requirements

• Assist with financial and tax audits

• Document and monitor internal controls in support of auditing team

• Coordinate more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and finance team or with other departments. Requirements • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Solid understanding and practical application of Accounting Principles.

• Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

• Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not mandatory.

• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• High level of integrity and trustworthiness.

• Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new accounting practices and standards.

• CPA certification or progress towards it is a plus.
