Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health invites applications for the position of PRN Admissions & Referral Clinician . Position Scope:

Coordinates all aspects of the acute process from time of inquiry call through admission. Provides crisis intervention and evaluation services.

Qualifications

  1. Oversees acute referrals and admissions.

  2. Completes voluntary, involuntary, direct, and mobile admissions.

  3. Maintains confidential clinical and financial records for all patients served.

  4. Acts as the Court Liaison as necessary, coordinating with local Community Services Boards and Norfolk Juvenile Intake for all Temporary Detention admissions.

  5. Ensures Service Excellence delivery

    Additional duties and responsibilities include:

    -Oversees acute referrals and admissions; completes voluntary, involuntary, direct, and mobile admissions; maintains confidential clinical and financial records for all patients; acts as the court liaison as necessary, coordinating with local CSBs and Norfolk Juvenile Intake, for all Temporary Detention admissions.

    -Provides telephonic and face-to-face mental health triage, assessment, and crisis intervention both on-site and at local hospital emergency facilities.

    -Develops and maintains productive and interactive 1:1 relationships with referring agencies, parents, and/or legal guardians.

    -Participates in Admissions On-Call weekend rotation; assist with evening and overnight on-call shifts when necessary during any on-call shifts.

    -Coordinates and participates in civil commitment hearings, and processes thereafter.

    -For acute admissions, verifies administrative process is complete prior to admissions (including insurance verification, consent packet, patient label, and biopsychosocial assessment).

    -Fosters effective communication in the milieu consistent with therapeutic goals; fosters effective communication with staff members, and champions dialogue in addressing concerns.

    -Serves as a role model for child and adolescent patients/residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors and demonstrates Service Excellence.

    -Interprets facility and departmental policies and works cohesively with department in the attainment of organizational objectives.

    -Works collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team to achieve and exceed quality patient care; displays a high degree of professionalism in all activities and interactions with students, staff, parents, agency personnel, and community members, etc.

    Education Requirements:

    Master’s degree in a social science, such as counseling, psychology, or social work.

    Licensure/Certification: None

    Experience:

    One or more years’ experience in mental counseling, crisis intervention counseling preferred. Preferred experience in an acute psychiatric healthcare setting. Knowledge of current psychiatric diagnostic and treatment terminology.

    Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques, biopsychosocial assessments, mental status examinations, and

    clinical interviews. Must have knowledge of various types of referral sources in the area, as well as the various

    types of funding available. Knowledge of and ability to use oral and writing composition skills, basic math,

    personal computer, Excel and Word software, telephone, copier, and fax machine.
