Job Description

Complete all assigned general maintenance work orders that include, but are not limited to, locksmithing and door repair. Provide excellent customer service to any and all parties involved with the execution of assigned tasks. Complete all tasks in a clean and professional manner while adhering to the University’s code of ethics and Service Standards at all times.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Working knowledge of construction work in an institutional setting. Working knowledge of carpenter, locksmithing, building, plaster, and masonry work methods and procedures. Maintain a complete locksmithing operation in such a manner to provide for a reduced risk and minimum of compromise to security for persons and property at Old Dominion University. Demonstrated ability to follow written and oral instructions, and to read blueprints, interpret specifications.

Special licenses, registration or certification

Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record. Locksmith Certification.

Level and type of experience

Basic experience in the construction/maintenance field with emphasis in carpentry and locksmithing. Some experience in plaster and masonry work.

Certification, professional locksmithing institute. Some on-the-job or vocational training.

Conditions of Employment

Facilities Management employees are considered essential personnel and subject to working during university closings.

The holder of this position is also subject serving on a schedule to be called back to work during non-work hours. In such an event, this position is required to respond to after-hours calls and will carry an ODU cell phone on a rotational basis. While serving as the after-hours call-back person, the individual must remain available by telephone, text, or pager while off site and respond to any message within fifteen (15) minutes.
