Job Description

The Garage Keeper is the primary on-scene maintenance technician and customer ambassador in each parking facility on campus. In addition to regular cleaning and maintenance, the garage keeper completes cash and coin collection from meter pay stations, ensures proper operation of all mechanical equipment, and reports any deficiencies to supervisors for corrective action.

Superb observation skills required to perform condition assessments of facilities. Excellent people skills are required, including the demonstrated ability to positively direct customers, disseminate information, and defuse confrontations.

Demonstrated ability to walk, stand, and work for extended periods in all weather conditions, primarily in unheated and unairconditioned work environments. Ability to lift and carry twenty-five pounds, to bend, stoop, reach, push and pull regularly in the performance of duties. Ability to hold and maneuver tools and equipment such as brooms, mops, mechanical blowers, power washers, and hand tools. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and to communicate via two-way radio using short and direct commands. Ability to read policies and instructions. Ability to work with diverse customer groups. Requires the ability to learn and interpret parking regulations and maintenance procedures; ability to learn and utilize several technical procedures to troubleshoot and maintain parking equipment including meter pay stations and crosswalk sensors. Requires ability to drive maintenance vehicles, golf carts, and motorized garage sweeping vehicles safely throughout the work shift. Requires ability to direct traffic inside a garage or parking lot.

Some experience with parking lot and parking garage maintenance, including daily cleaning and condition reporting.

Additional Considerations (supplemental knowledge, skills, abilities, education, experience, licensure, certification)

Some experience with maintenance and repair of multi-space parking pay-station machines, including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, component replacement, and overhaul. Some experience using a laptop or tough pad to track and record maintenance items performed. Some experience using hand held power tools including drills, screwdrivers, and saws to fabricate and install parking and directional signs.

Conditions of Employment

Work hours are 7:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday
