The Role

• Assume the role of a Technical Expert as a WebSphere Application Server (WAS) Administrator, accountable for the installation, upgrading, and configuration of WAS, IHS, and associated tools across diverse platforms.

• Troubleshoot and apply patches to maintain optimal performance of the running WAS system.

• Provide support for business-as-usual (BAU) responsibilities, ensuring uninterrupted operation of applications 24/7. This includes monitoring Service Now incidents, leading their resolution, adhering to change management procedures, assisting in problem management, and contributing to root cause analysis (RCA).

• Offer off-hours support for production applications.

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of applications and integration, effectively resolving any related issues.

• Monitor application performance and proactively enhance response times.

Required Professional and Technical Expertise:

• Minimum of 7+ years of experience in WebSphere Administration.

• Ability to work independently as a contributor or collaboratively within a team of experienced Application Server Administrators, supporting operations on a 24X7X365 basis as needed.

• Hands-on technical proficiency in WebSphere Administration.

• Proven expertise in configuring WebSphere V7.0, including backup-config and restore-config profiles.

• Proficiency in WebSphere V8.0 implementation, support, workload management, and performance tuning.

• Strong leadership skills to drive and coordinate with third-party vendors for swift change resolution. Familiarity with infrastructure technologies.

• Experience in WebSphere performance monitoring, tuning, optimization, and capacity planning.

• Validated experience providing Level 1/2/3 support and fixing issues on middleware or reciprocal development platforms, while effectively supporting team members.

Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise:

• Availability for off-hours support for production applications.

• Continued development of in-depth understanding of applications and integration, actively resolving related issues.

• Exposure to scripting languages.

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in automation using tools like Ansible, Shell, Perl, or Python.

Who You Are

Experience: A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in WebSphere Administration is typically required. This ensures the candidate has a strong foundation and understanding of the technology.

Technical Expertise: Proficiency in installing, configuring, and upgrading WebSphere Application Server (WAS), including knowledge of related tools such as IBM HTTP Server (IHS). Experience in troubleshooting and applying patches to a running WAS system is important.

Performance Optimization: Proven skills in monitoring application performance, improving response times, and capacity planning for WebSphere environments. Familiarity with workload management techniques and performance tuning is desired.

Support and Maintenance: Ability to provide Level 1/2/3 support for middleware platforms, including resolving incidents and working on problem management. Experience in supporting production applications and ensuring their availability 24/7 is valuable.

Automation and Scripting: Exposure to scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Perl, Python) and experience in automation tools like Ansible can be advantageous.

Collaboration and Communication: Strong teamwork and communication skills are necessary to collaborate effectively with colleagues, third-party vendors, and stakeholders.

Certifications: While not always mandatory, certifications such as IBM Certified System Administrator for WebSphere Application Server or related credentials can demonstrate a candidate's expertise.
