Newtown Savings Bank Mortgage Processor III (remote with onsite requirements) in Newtown, Connecticut

Location: Newtown, CT

Newtown Savings Bank is seeking an organized, self-motivated, team player to join our Loan Origination Department as a Mortgage Processor III. The Mortgage Processor III performs a pre-underwriting of the files prior to being submitted to the underwriting department in a timely and efficient manner to ensure an expeditious approval and a timely closing. The Processor will provide quality loan processing, reviewing files for adherence to underwriting standards and ensuring completeness of submission. The Processor is required to contact borrowers to obtain loan documentation and act as a point of contact between underwriters, loan officers and customers to effectively close loans. The Processor will maintain a pipeline of conventional agency, government, jumbo, and portfolio loans.

*This position is REMOTE after onboarding is complete, however candidates must live within commuting distance to Newtown, CT, and will be required to visit the office for training, meetings, etc.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process residential mortgage loans under various programs in a quality consistent with bank policies and procedures as well as meeting all regulatory requirements.

  • Provides excellent customer service by effectively communicating and cooperating with all internal and external customers.

  • Critical thinking to promptly identify and escalate any potential concerns.

  • Calculate income, analyze bank statements, review appraisal as a pre-underwrite of the file.

  • Demonstrate ability to succeed in a fast-paced high-volume environment.

  • Successfully work with loan officers, underwriters and closers to ensure that loan files meet expected timelines.

  • Exceptional time management, organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines is critical to this position.

  • Responsible for submitting the loan to an automated underwriting system (DU) – Fannie Mae Desktop Underwriter or (LP) - Freddie Mac Loan Prospector. Acting as a junior underwriter, reviewing the findings for outstanding documentation necessary.

  • Enter complete and accurate data in systems to ensure data integrity. Submitting files through a fraud tool identifying any discrepancies and addressing them.

  • Responsible for contacting customers, employers, appraisal management companies and attorneys to clear outstanding conditions. Must maintain effective follow up to ensure receipt of any outstanding documents.

  • Participate in various civic and community functions to further enhance the image of the bank and to network for continuous new business opportunities.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • College degree or High School diploma required with 5-7 years of mortgage lending experience in processing of residential mortgages for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, CHFA, FHA and VA. Encompass experience is a plus.

  • Should be self-motivated and solution oriented with strong communication skills.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the residential mortgage underwriting process and loan documentation.

  • Familiarity with state and federal laws governing real estate lending transactions. (Truth-in-Lending, RESPA, HMDA, CRA). Microsoft Excel and Word skills required.
