Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Proactively addressing customer quality needs, including methods and procedures designed to ensure that Corning’s products meet specifications and that Corning specifications meet/exceed customer requirements. This role focuses on minimizing customer risk by ensuring product capability during initial development and on-going operations of new products and processes in OFC. This role ensures that QA/PQAs are developed and adhered to and updating those systems with new information. This role works closely with plant Quality organizations to support issue resolutions, Technology organizations to aid in new product PQA/QA development, and plant Engineering organizations for capability improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the impact of product, process and equipment changes on product attributes and quality architectures

  • Perform basic troubleshooting/problem solving of process and mechanical issues

  • Complete basic installations of components

  • Assist with construction of jigs and fixtures

  • Assist in performing set up and performance verification of cabling measurement systems

  • Configure product samples for quality testing

  • Setup/perform and track/report progress of testing as directed

  • Work with engineering on Proactive Sustainable Solutions vs. reactive responses

  • Interface with all manufacturing departments and Technology teams to develop and implement process or equipment improvements into manufacturing

  • Conduct basic data analysis

  • Document process procedures to enable production to run equipment and products efficiently and within specifications

  • Capable of working within the manufacturing plants MOC systems, including MCN/MCS, WindChill, and adding spare parts

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in technical field is highly preferred or strong Math/Science background and 5 years' experience OR at least seven years' experience in a manufacturing environment (a mechanical or electrical tech to support process equipment in an engineering support or maintenance role)

  • Mechanical and/or Controls aptitude

  • Working knowledge of mechanical assemblies

  • Ability to complete assignments accurately and at a pre-defined schedule

  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team

  • Able to Clearly Express Technical Ideas

  • Ability to Effectively Communicate within a Global Work Environment.

  • Hands-on technical skills using test and measuring equipment

  • Ability to use basic measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, and rulers)

  • Basic understanding of cabling process and equipment

  • Familiarity with computer applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel

  • Makes decisions based on data

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and issues effectively

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • CAD Skills – Basic 3D Design (CREO or SolidWorks) or willingness to learn

  • Ability to complete rapid prototyping of jigs and fixtures

  • Other technician and/or operator roles that lead to a better understanding of the ribbon equipment & processes.

  • Reads fabrication drawings and electrical schematics.

  • Familiarity with Quality Systems (BIQCP, PQA, MSA, FMEA, MCN/MCS)

  • Data analysis capability – Minitab or JMP

  • Controls knowledge and troubleshooting ability

The range for this position is $65,232.00 - $89,694.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
