We have 3 types of pharmacists shifts which we rotate to give our pharmacists a little variety. This position includes all 3 shifts.

This is by no means a comprehensive job description but will give you an idea of what to expect especially if you are a retail pharmacist ready to explore a new and exciting chapter in your career. (We will gladly train)

Clinical Pharmacist:

  • Prepare for and attend morning rounds/discharge planning meeting with hospitalist/nursing and related health care professionals
  • Enter orders if needed, and verify all CPOE (Computerized Provider Order Entry) orders for all inpatient services
  • Oversee and perform the medication reconciliation process
  • Contact and confer with prescribers if there are any questions or irregularities regarding medication orders and discrepancies with medication reconciliation.
  • Clinical monitoring of TPNs (Total Parenteral Nutrition), heparin and pharmacist-to-dose Vancomycin
  • Consult with physician and nursing staff concerning the availability, form, side effects, dosing, pharmacokinetics, medication information and compatibilities of currently available drugs.
  • Carry out hand-off communications with other pharmacists and pharmacy technicians which includes all pending issues, orders, dosing, labs etc.

Operations Pharmacist:

  • Supervision of the department in the absence of the Director
  • Supervise the filling and dispensing of Employee Prescription Plan prescriptions
  • Available for clinical medication information to clinical practices, providers, nurses etc
  • Supervise, prepare and check all IV compounds, oversee IV technicians (Non-Hazardous and Hazardous Medications)
  • Assist in coordinating daily workflow with IV, distribution and floating technicians
  • Review all infusion orders for the Outpatient Treatment Center for dosing and accuracy

Floating Pharmacist:

  • Assist the operational and clinical pharmacist as necessary
  • Additional duties as may be assigned by the Director of Pharmacy

All Pharmacists:

  • Document all clinical interventions, adverse events and performance improvement processes within 48 hours
  • Attend meetings as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy
  • Verify and check Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) after refilled, record all events and discrepancies for process review
  • Respond to Code Blue calls when available
  • On-Call responsibility, 30-minute response time if needed physically in facility
  • Supervise and assist with maintaining proper inventory
