Position Overview:

We are looking for individuals with background in hydraulics, hydrology, geometry, and mathematics , ideally with knowledge of water distribution systems, free-surface and pressurised flows, flood inundation modelling and related engineering fields in the water industry. We are particularly interested in individuals with experience modelling clean water distribution systems, e.g. using software such as EPANET, and who have relevant experience of Fortran or C/C++ development .

You will become an important member of the ‘water engine team’, undertaking various development activities for numerical solvers and related algorithms for water engineering software. You will need to be adaptable to work with different software engineering scrum teams, different languages/tech stacks, and work on complex numerical problems as well as automated testing, and software maintenance. Our teams develop industry leading software such as InfoWorks WS Pro, InfoWorks ICM, and InfoDrainage, and are involved in development for various other software products within Autodesk on the desktop and in the cloud.

You will have a significant impact on how we design, build, and deliver our products to millions of professionals. You will work in a cross-functional team focused on building and maintaining software for various products and components. You will work on a variety of unique challenges which give you the chance to learn modern technology and grow your skills.

At Autodesk we work in a Hybrid working model, with offices globally, although for this role it would be preferable to be based in a time zone close to GMT.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand and develop numerical solvers and related algorithms

  • Problem solving, debugging and investigation of hydrological/hydraulic accuracy and performance issues

  • Keep up to date with the latest academic & industry developments in our field

  • Prototype, implement, and maintain production software and software components

  • Collaborate within your team and with teams of engineers to design, plan, develop, refactor, test, deliver and maintain complex features within desktop applications, cloud services and desktop components

  • Write unit and integration tests

  • Work with the product owner, experience designer and product management teams to review and implement proposed designs

  • Working to Agile methodologies as an active member of a Scrum team

  • Collaborate using tools such as Git, JIRA, Slack and wiki pages

Minimum Qualifications:

  • +5 years’ experience with programming in Fortran or C/C++ Degree in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field

  • Experience of the water industry in an engineering context, with knowledge of hydrology/hydraulics

  • Solid English language skills

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience using and developing modelling software for clean water distribution systems

  • Familiarity with computational geometry

  • Experience with GIS, such as QGIS or ArcGIS

  • Experience in software development team, ideally in a commercial setting in a Scrum team

  • Experience with Git or similar source code revision control systems

  • Knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD pipeline and Test Automation

  • Understanding of deployment methodology

  • Knowledge of scripting and shell environments, such as Ruby, Python, and Bash
