Position: Quality Engineer

Department: 10-320: Quality

Reports to: Director of Quality

Location: Newberg, OR (Onsite)

JOB SUMMARY

The Quality Engineer (QE) ensures that product components from internal and external suppliers are high quality, free of defects, and ensures the products meet or exceed regulatory, company, and manufacturing requirements/specifications. The QE will analyze data to collaborate closely with suppliers and internal resources to improve product quality as well as collaborate internally to improve manufacturing processes to lower costs and lead times. The QE provides quality data and as well as proposed solutions for quality-related initiatives as part of a cross-functional team with suppliers and internal resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Willingly, consistently, and professionally demonstrate the values of our company while supporting the company vision, mission and exceeding our customer expectations.

  • Process creation and execution of quality control guidelines and protocols.

  • Execute inspections and approvals to manufacturing specifications, drawings, performance requirements etc.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal resources regarding all nonconformances to determine root cause and corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal resources to improve manufacturing processes to reduce cost and lead time.

  • Own customer complaint process from voice of customer, containment, root cause through implementation of corrective actions.

  • Performs internal audits of procedures as required.

  • Works overtime as required to meet deadlines.

  • Other duties as required.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Bachelor of engineering degree, or 10+ years of related experience/training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience/training. Ability to program CMM software, strong manufacturing and/or mechanical background that includes tooling, CNC and/or manual machining, and programming. Practical experience using measuring instruments critical to quality. Familiarity with Six Sigma, Lean, ISO, GD&T training/experience is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written

  • Strong time management skills, with an ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks against competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • Positive team building and collaboration abilities.

  • Hands on experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and testing methodologies

  • Strong capability of using root cause identification methodologies and effective corrective action implementation.

  • Required to have experience using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, and other quality tools to identify and get to root cause of an issue.

  • Required to have ability to use metrology tools, including but not limited to calipers, micrometers, coordinate measurement machines, depth micrometers, optical comparator, etc.

  • Experience with PPAP (Preproduction approval process) methods is preferred.

  • Experience with evaluating machined parts, cast parts, subcontracted assemblies, is required.

  • Experience of working and communicating with offshore suppliers is preferred.

  • Experience writing inspection plans is preferred.

  • Experience with using SPC (statistical process control) is required.

  • Experience with statistical analysis tools to evaluate process capability is preferred.

  • Experience evaluating a FAI (first article inspection) is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Office and travel have moderate noise levels. Machine/Product demonstrations and customer visits can have loud noise levels.

To meet customer requirements, the employee may be asked to travel in an airplane and/or vehicle to get to customer work sites. At times, this position walks on or through high elevations, underground and/or confined spaces, around high voltage and in heavy industrial and/or construction work environments such as bridges, dams, mines, power plants, shipyards, etc. The employee must be able to work in hazardous working environments with possible extreme working conditions to complete customer training and/or applications support.

Noise levels may be extreme and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and usage is driven by customer requirements. Other required PPE includes, but is not limited to, steel toe boots, hardhat and safety glasses. Customer working environments can be extreme in regard to height, confined space, physical requirements and hazards.
