United Health Services is seeking a Per Diem Medical Office Assistant to join our Newark Valley Family Practice team in Newark Valley, NY.
Shift: Days Hours per week: Varies Salary range: $17.58 - $23.78/hour, depending on experience
Medical Office Assistant Overview
In a clerical role the Medical Office Assistant is the customer service liaison to each of our practices. The Medical Office Assistant greets each patient with courtesy and respect using exceptional communication skills. The purpose of this position is to provide our patients with a seamless experience while following all UHS Policies regarding registration, scheduling, insurance verification and billing. In a clinical role the medical assistant performs patient care tasks under the direction of a licensed nurse and/or nurse practitioner, clinical nurse specialist, physician, or other authorized health care provider.
Medical Office Assistant Key Responsibilities and Expectations
+ + Performs clinical assignments within scope of practice of a Medical Assistant to maximize patient experience and ensure patient safety.
Promotes and facilitates the compliance and understanding of Joint Commission, NYS DOH, Infection Control and all regulatory standards.
Maintains CLIA Waived Lab standards and performs CLIA Waived Lab testing and proficiency validations according to regulatory standards. Includes tri-annual AAFP Lab Proficiency testing, lab quality controls and lab credentialing.
Collaborates with patients, families and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate patient care.
Greet customers with a positive and friendly approach at every interaction.
Ability to accurately and efficiently multi-task.
Provide detailed quality service via phone, electronic messaging or in person.
Perform registration, scheduling and insurance verification as outlined by UHS Policy.
Maintain an awareness of patient wait times and work with team to provide updated information regarding any delays.
Answer patient questions and provide information as necessary in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
Balance financial drawer and batches at the completion of each day.
Analyze financial work list and take corrective actions as directed.
Maintain awareness of supplies, restock and order as necessary.
Scan documents into Next Gen as outlined by UHS Policy.
Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times.
Participates in Performance Improvement activities, reviews PI data and assists in the development of Performance Improvement plans.
Participates in educational opportunities.

Position Qualifications
Minimum:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Graduate of an accredited secondary medical assisting program or 2 years of clinical experience in a medical office or hospital setting.
Preferred:
Previous experience in a walk in / primary care / specialty care setting.
Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)
License/Certification
Minimum Required:
Documentation of current CPR certification required within 1 week of start of employment.
Preferred:
Current driver’s license
