Research Technician Location(s): Granville, OH, US, 43023-1200 Function: Research and Development Audience: Experienced Professional Work Arrangement: On Site Requisition ID: 63742 PURPOSE OF THE JOB The Research Technician- Glass Science role within Insulation R&D is in a research lab that supports operations, productivity, and innovation projects in support of Owens Corning's glass production facilities around the globe. This individual is responsible for producing data through the testing of glass and glass-making materials. The work will also include activities such as glass melting and sample preparation. In this role it is critical to be able to work safely, drive results and collaborate with project leads and lab members. The successful candidate will be a key player in an exciting team-focused environment. Reports to: Glass S&T Operations & Lab Leader Span of Control: Individual Contributor JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & IMPACT Live the Owens Corning Safety Stand Working safely is a condition of employment at Owens Corning Continuous commitment and attention to safety in the laboratory working environment Follows all safety procedures and protocols in the labs and on Granville site Actively participates in safety meetings, audits, and events Continuously strives to improve safety standards to ensure all team members remain safe Promptly reports all safety incidents or concerns to the appropriate source Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Work to drive a zero injury, zero defect, and zero loss culture Actively participates in TPM deployment throughout the lab spaces Sample Preparation and Analysis Sample preparation for various analyses Working with glass samples across four glass platforms Physical property testing on a variety of materials Supports refractory initiatives across the OC network through a variety of test methods Proprietary Equipment Readiness Responsible for tear down, rebuild and troubleshooting of proprietary test equipment Works independently with suppliers to maintain proper parts supply levels to avoid delays in testing Supports and troubleshoots critical testing capability across the OC network of glass plants Collaborates and Fosters Teamwork Collaborates with other team members to ensure lab requests are completed in a timely manner Assists in high priority workstreams as a team Collaborates with internal customers to promote team-based problem solving Actively contributes to team troubleshooting to ensure the fulfillment of lab goals and objectives Leads lab improvement projects JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma 5-7 years of glass, raw materials or refractory testing Ability to perform laboratory procedures and testing following established procedures Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Ability to travel up to 10% PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in science or technical field Experience with high temperature furnaces Deep understanding of glass and raw materials processing KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Results driven and able to prioritize work and manage deadlines to respond to business needs Excellent verbal and written communication skills Comfortable working safely with high temperature materials Hands-on and technical aptitude Creative and inquisitive mindset with
