The scientist will be accountable to collaborate with broader Enterprise scientists and Business Unit R&D teams to develop the critical Chemistry and Rheology capabilities required to deliver the Enterprise strategy. Specifically, this position is in an enterprise team that delivers on top Enterprise initiatives through deep technical understanding of our inorganic materials. The scientist with develop and test solutions that expand the understanding of and provide solutions to multiple business units across Owens Corning. The role requires project management that entails defining the problems to solve, method development, and ultimately implementation of the testing capabilities on a wide range of inorganic materials. Development of new wet chemical methods to deeply understand the various raw materials used to make glass as well as the finished glass itself will be required. The scientist will have in-depth technical knowledge of the team, so that they may communicate clearly with team members and project partners. The incumbent will be a key player in a team-focused environment. Reports to: Chemistry & Rheology R&D Leader Span of Control: JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, SCOPE, and CONTRIBUTIONS Commitment to Safety (10%) Active in housekeeping, safety meetings, and special safety projects Attends monthly safety meetings, audits and safety days Authors SOP, JHA, MOC for new method development and implementation Technical Leadership of Wet Inorganic Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis Projects (35%) Identifies capabilities needed to meet Enterprise R&D Strategy Develops fundamental understanding of the inorganic testing needs within the organization Designs and executes project plans to develop and/or implement innovative wet inorganic chemical methodology Leads projects to develop and implement new equipment and testing methods Establishes and maintains deep collaborations between teams across S&T Method development and validation and establishment of instrumentation (35%) Develops methods to solve problems in alignment with Enterprise R&D Strategy Utilizes statistical means to design and implement testing protocol for validation of new methods Recommends, installs, and validates new instrumentation Works safely with strong acids, including hydrofluoric acid Documents method development and validation within technical reports Transfer Methods to internal OC labs and to our suppliers (20%) Trains scientists and technicians in instrumentation and method use Develops method transfer protocol and transfer methods to our internal and external business partners Validates method transfer in collaboration with recipient labs JOB REQUIREMENTS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate level degree in a hard science, Analytical Chemistry preferred 3+ years of experience working in a chemical laboratory (AAS, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, inorganic digestions, and fusions) Statistics as applied to Analytical Chemistry analyses PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in a hard science,
