Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Nurse. The college health Staff Nurse reports directly to the Medical Director in Student Health Services (SHS) and provides direct primary nursing care to the patients in collaboration with all SHS healthcare team members.

This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Collect accurate data pertinent to the health of the patient in an organized and systematic manner by use of interview, observation, physical assessment, and review of records. All relevant collected data are documented in electronic health record (EHR) and conveyed to collaborating healthcare team members in a HIPAA compliant manner for best coordination of care.
  • Assess data collected and prioritize nursing care based upon the needs of the patient.
  • Coordinate, reassess, and adjust plan of care with the clinicians as necessary.
  • Collaborate with all healthcare team members in formulating a plan of care with specific goals and interventions for the patient.
  • Assess the patient holistically to identify medical and psychosocial needs.
  • Identify and provide referrals to patients of available programs as appropriate.
  • Execute clinicians' orders per Nursing Practice Act
  • Participate in community, departmental, and university-wide outreach events and programs such as vaccination clinics, TB testing clinics, Student Programs/Tabling Events.
  • Support Divisional and Departmental Missions.
  • Participate as a member of assigned committee(s).
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and grand rounds
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduate of a recognized registered nursing school, licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of New Jersey or eligible for licensure and obtain license by starting date.
  • 2-3 years of experience as a registered nurse
Certifications/Licenses
  • CPR certified or willing to obtain.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and interest in College Health or adolescent health nursing care with strengths in teaching preventive healthcare.
Equipment Utilized
  • Electronic health records and routine medical equipment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Ability to physically assist patients as necessary; may entail lifting clients, pushing wheelchairs, etc.
  • Ability to cope with interruptions, multiple tasks and stress of dealing with multiple patients.
