ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Environmental Engineer / Geologist / Scientist - Federal Site Investigation & Remediation | Hybrid | Any VHB Office

VHB is seeking a Senior Project Manager/ Environmental Engineer / Geologist / Scientist for our strong and growing Federal Site Investigation & Remediation practice. This professional will support Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) response actions for federal land managers at contaminated sites located across the United States. Response activities will include managing preliminary assessments/site inspections, engineering evaluation/cost analyses, remedial investigation/feasibility studies, removal/remedial design, removal/remedial actions, and long-term monitoring programs.

Responsibilities

    Manage effective site investigation and remediation field programs
  • Collaborate with other federal practice members
  • Provide occasional hands-on support during field exploration and testing
  • Leverage technology to support data management and visualization
  • Interpret/synthesize site investigation data
  • Evaluate potential contaminant migration pathways
  • Collaborate with human health and ecological risk assessors
  • Evaluate applicable or relevant and appropriate requirements (ARARs)
  • Effectively communicate project status and findings to clients through technical reports, correspondence, memoranda, and presentations
  • Perform routine project management tasks (proposal writing, budget tracking, invoicing) and develop new project opportunities
  • Mentor and possibly supervise junior team members
  • Manage client relationships
  • Attend and lead meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/compliance issues
  • Participate in professional organizations that promote relationships with clients and teaming partners
  • Write technical reports, correspondence, notes, and memoranda

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong understanding of comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) response actions for federal clients
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex topics with colleagues and clients
  • Knowledge of site assessment/characterization, data analysis, remediation techniques, human health and ecological risk assessment processes
  • Understanding of contaminant transport and fate
  • Excellent written, report writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to recognize and manage business risk
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, or related field
  • Master's Degree preferred (a master's degree may substitute for 1 year of experience)
  • 11-15 years of professional site investigation and remediation experience required
  • Experience investigating and/or remediating sites subject to the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) required
  • Experience writing proposals for and managing federal contracts preferred
  • OSHA 40 hr. HAZWOPER certification and annual refresher certifications required
  • Professional Licensure or on track to obtain (PG, PE, CHMM) preferred
  • User-level experience/knowledge of GIS and environmental data management platforms (e.g., Earthsoft's EQuIS) preferred
