Position Summary:

  • This position will oversee the business affairs and staff of a performing arts operation that includes box office operations, artistic services, performer accommodations, marketing and publicity, development, and budget maintenance.

  • Primary responsibilities are to oversee NJIT’s theatre enterprise through recruitment, facilities, course development, and creating opportunities with STEM+ curricula.

    Essential Functions:

    Act as the artistic coordinator for each academic year’s season, work with the program advisor to coordinate course scheduling, and to perform other duties, as assigned, including but not limited

  • To directing one show per season; coordinating festival events.

  • Administering professional development workshops and seminars.

  • Responsible for all related operating, scholarship, grant, and gift budgets and help to generate the contracts for artists.

  • Supervise and advise the Manager of Operations for the Jim Wise Theatre spaces, prioritizing theatre productions, events, and labs.

  • Additionally, per semester, teach one course and coordinate the independent study, internship, and practicum courses.

  • Recruit, coordinate, and supervise guest artists/speakers to work with the students in classes, productions, and workshops.

  • Attend committees associated with program development.

    Additional Functions:

    Experience with or demonstrated ability to learn Google Suite as well as other platforms and software associated with university academic affairs and administration, including Canvas, Navigate, Banner, Cornerstone, etc.

    Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years working in the performing arts.

  • M.F.A. or Ph.D. in performing arts or related field.

  • Demonstrates awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Can supervise and direct student projects and clubs, work with the theatre team and STEM+ areas of the university on collaborative projects.

  • Outstanding oral and writing communication skills.

  • Adaptable to changing circumstances, and maintains a focused and pleasant professional attitude with students, staff, and faculty.

  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
