Position Summary:

The Director of Administration serves as a key strategic advisor to the Dean for non-academic matters. The Director oversees the administration of the college including financial management, human resources, and facilities and space planning. Additionally, this position is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing strategies and operations related to the enrollment of the College for undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs. As such, the Director of Administration supervises staff within the dean’s office and serves as a principal liaison with central administration offices, such as Human Resources, Finance, and Campus Planning & Design.

Essential Functions:

  • Contributes to and oversees the support of short and long-term enrollment goals.

  • Leads and directs the work of other employees and has full authority for recruitment and performance management of the team.

  • Administers established policies and procedures but may have some impact on departmental budgeting, strategic planning, data management and process improvements.

  • Plans, manages and oversees all routine administrative operations of the college.

  • Coordinates financial planning and resource allocation for the college’s operating budget and has fiduciary responsibility for maintaining a sound financial environment to ensure timely and accurate financial information, to monitor accounts and resolve problems, to ensure compliance, to safeguard resources and reduce risk.

  • Serves as a key resource for department chairs who need guidance on the appropriate usage of funds and interpretation of NJIT’s business policies.

  • Oversees the day-to-day responsibilities of the administrative staff within the college, including coordination of workflow of academic operations, administrative operations, and technology services.

  • Oversees the enrollment-focused activities for YWCC students and provides new initiatives to raise awareness of YWCC majors and programs in collaboration with the Student Outreach Coordinator.

  • Coordinates facilities and space planning with the Dean and other college administrative personnel. Supports the Dean in strategic planning for future space needs.

  • Manages special projects, as necessary.

Additional Functions:

Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of five years’ progressive administrative experience, preferably in higher education.

  • Master’s degree desired.

  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience. Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of five years’ administrative experience, preferably in higher education.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience managing staff in an academic setting; ability to coach and train staff.

  • Expertise with systems and processes used within academic institutions, including those used for student enrollment, financial management, human resources, and data management.

  • Demonstrated experience with budget and financial management, human resources, and administration within the context of academic institutions.

  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
