Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Clerical Assistant for the Enrollment Services. This position reports to the Asst Chancellor of Enrollment Management. The Clerical Assistant performs professional work that requires knowledge of general clerical and office principles as well as specific knowledge of university policy and procedures.This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
  • Organizes and performs secretarial and clerical duties that require judgment in the selection of the proper procedures to employ.
  • Reads and routes incoming mail and routes outgoing mail.
  • Greets visitors, ascertains nature of business, and directs visitors to supervisor or appropriate person.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position requires a fully on-site work arrangement.
FLSA Nonexempt
Position Salary $34,000 to $40,000.00

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent, and/or up to 4 years of relevant office, clerical, bookkeeping, library assistant or related experience depending on the duties to be performed.
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Certifications/Licenses
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Rutgers office functions.
  • Comfortable working in a multilingual and multicultural environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Requires a high school/vocational school education or equivalent plus one year of any equivalent combination of: secretarial experience, clerical experience, advanced secretarial training, or college-level study.
  • Requires demonstrated data entry/word-processing/typing skills and working knowledge and the ability to use basic spreadsheet, word-processing, database software, and/or email.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Must have effective client service skills.
Equipment Utilized
  • Regularly uses computer equipment, and software programs including the Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Program Set-Up: Carrying boxes with promotional material, setting up tables and chairs for medium size events (50-100ppl) and managing office supplies/storage space.
