Prudential is looking for a passionate and highly motivated attorney to lead Prudentials Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Law team. The Chief Legal Officer, Data Privacy & Cybersecurity will lead a team of attorneys who handle a wide range of legal matters related to data, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and privacy across a global and diverse financial services enterprise. The successful candidate must be an experienced practitioner, have strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, legal research and writing skills, contract drafting abilities, a team-first mentality, and a focus on continuous learning. A willingness to work on the front lines of cybersecurity and data privacy, quickly learn the businesses of Prudential and take on the unknown will all be key to success in this role. Exposure to stakeholders from across the enterprise and to exciting legal issues offers the right candidate an expansive learning environment.
The current employee work arrangement for this position is Hybrid and requires your on-site presence on a reoccurring basis as determined by your business. Your manager will provide additional details relative to the specific number of days you are expected to be on-site.
What you can expect:
Lead a team of attorneys to support data privacy and cybersecurity legal work across the company.
Provide legal advice to ensure Prudentials practices with regard to personal information of customers and employees align with applicable domestic and international privacy laws, state insurance privacy laws as well as company policies and practices;
Provide legal and strategic advice on cybersecurity and data protection issues, including current and evolving regulatory obligations, incident response, cyber risk identification and mitigation efforts, and cybersecurity insurance matters;
Provide advice, negotiate, and draft privacy, artificial intelligence, and data security provisions for business transactions and initiatives, including vendor and third-party service provider contracts;
Partner with team members across the enterprise to develop and implement data governance policies and practices;
Follow and stay apprised of privacy, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence legal developments and understand and be able to interpret existing and proposed federal, state and international privacy, cybersecurity and AI laws and regulations, including the ability to evaluate and draft legislative proposals and language;
Advise on groundbreaking privacy and security related technology issues.
What youll need:
J.D. with 10+ years of experience in a law firm or an in-house corporate law department with emphasis in privacy or cybersecurity law; and admitted in NJ or eligible for in-house counsel licensing
Expertise in federal and state privacy and cybersecurity laws, regulations, and regulatory guidelines including GLBA, FCRA, HIPAA, NYDFS, state financial/insurance privacy and cybersecurity laws, state security breach laws and NIST frameworks;
Experience with international privacy and data protection laws and regulations, particularly with regard to cross border transfers;
Experience with digital and new media technology privacy and cybersecurity issues in the online and mobile environment;
Experience with privacy and cybersecurity issues in business transactions and contracts;
Experience with the advancement and deployment of Artificial Intelligence;
Itd be a plus if you had:
Financial services/insurance industry experience
Experience managing outside counsel
