Job Summary

The Accugenix team @ Charles River Labs in Newark, DE is currently seeking an NGS Team Lead.

This role will be responsible for processing customer samples in the microbiology laboratory utilizing the various technology platforms including but not limited to Next Generation Sequencing, Sanger Sequencing and Mass Spectrometry. Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and GMP compliance. Provide support and leadership to technologists during daily operations and effectively communicate processes and procedures to the laboratory manager.

Essential Duties AND Responsibilities

  • Provide daily support to technicians to ensure that all laboratory functions are carried out within regulatory and GMP guidelines in accordance with 21 CFR parts 210 and 211.

  • Collect, log, and prepare specimens for analysis and perform technical procedures with accuracy and precision while meeting the standards of all accrediting and regulatory agencies.

  • Comply with all aspects of laboratory safety, safety stations, safety manuals, safety SOP, and SDS sheets.

  • Provide support for regulatory agencies as required.

  • Enforce work procedures and processes that support company and departmental standards, procedures, and strategic directives.

  • Guide molecular assistants, interns, and technicians on performance of lab procedures.

  • Act as the primary trainer for other laboratory staff.

  • Perform DNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing of customer samples. May perform other processes including but not limited to internal studies and special projects.

  • Troubleshoot sequencing systems.

  • Participate in the development of alternative approaches to new or modified assays that will lead to improved performance and quality and can be effectively automated.

  • Collaborate with lab manager to implement new or modified SOPs, workflows, assay validations, training, and any other support needed to install and validate the change.

  • Prepare reagents/mixes in accordance with SOPs.

  • Provide routine maintenance, repair, and cleaning of all laboratory equipment.

  • Provide backup for all laboratory functions.

  • Collaborate with customer support to resolve discrepancies with customer samples.

  • Dispose of microbial cultures, chemicals, and glass in proper waste containers.

  • Receive, unpack, log, and subculture customer samples according to company procedures.

  • Suggest process improvements.

  • May supervise direct reports and be responsible for personnel management activities such as: scheduling, personnel actions (hiring, promotions, transfer, etc.), training and development, providing regular direction and feedback on performance, disciplinary actions and preparing and delivering annual performance and salary reviews.

  • Observe established safety guidelines and maintain effectiveness of the department.

  • Adhere to work procedures and processes that support company and departmental standards, procedures, and strategic directives.

  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Microbiology or related discipline.

Experience: 5 years minimum experience in a laboratory setting.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

Certification/Licensure: None.

Other: Working knowledge of the quality system.

Compensation Data

The pay range for this position is commensurate with experience per hour USD. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
