What will you be doing? • Conduct research and forecast macroeconomic indicators for the U.S. economy, including output, unemployment, inflation, and monetary and fiscal policy, and market views for global client base. • Act as owner of gross domestic product (GDP) tracking model used to estimate U.S. economic growth in real time, and use knowledge of growth accounting techniques and macroeconomics to modify the model frequently, aiming for better accuracy. • Write daily-release notes and reports to provide clients with brief intakes on data and U.S. economic outlook. • Write thematic research reports on U.S. economy and interaction with global economy, taking ownership of data collection, analysis, and presentation. • Advise business managers in Trading, Sales and Banking regarding relevant U.S. economic topics and implications for the business. • Interact with internal and external clients, the media, and policy makers, to discuss the team’s U.S. economic outlook, and respond to requests for data or analysis regarding U.S. economy. • Work closely with Sales to participate in client presentations, including in-person meetings, conference calls, and road-shows to present Barclays’ views on the U.S. economy, our key forecasts, and any new research notes published by the team. • Use knowledge of econometrics, statistics, and Matlab to create, maintain, and update recession probability model and Barclays’ weekly activity index tracker. • Collaborate with other Research groups to publish thematic cross-asset research notes. • Ensure the team’s published forecasts are shared with survey managers, including Bloomberg, Federal Reserve, and Bluechip.
What we’re looking for: Requires Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Economics, Finance or related field and four (4) years of experience in a related role performing U.S. and global economics research for a global financial services firm. Full term (4 years) of experience must include: Writing thematic research pertaining to the U.S. and global economy; Using Eviews and Matlab to forecast and execute models for macroeconomic variables, and analyzing and forecasting time-series and panel economic data; Using growth accounting techniques to form GDP forecasts; and Using Excel, Haver Analytics, and Bloomberg databases. Must have knowledge of: mathematics for economics; econometric analysis for cross-sectional, panel, and time-series data; mathematical and statistical programming; central banking; and U.S. fiscal policy and government budget. FINRA Series 7 & 63 certifications required within six (6) months of hire.
Where will you be working? You will be working at our Americas Headquarters at 745 Seventh Avenue. This 37-story office tower is located in Times Square in the heart of Manhattan and features a cafeteria, fitness center and state-of-the-art LED signage on the facade of the building. The building is easily accessible to Restaurants, Shops and Public Transportation.
