About the Team

Mizuho Americas Finance - Financial Regulatory Reporting (FRR) is a team responsible for the preparation of regulatory filings for multiple entities under Mizuho US operations, reporting to Mizuho Americas CFO. Mizuho seeks a highly motivated individual to join our team as Director of Regulatory Reporting. This is a hybrid position. The selected colleague will work at a Mizuho office an average of two or three days per week with the remainder worked remotely.

Summary

In this position, you will be responsible for leading and managing the preparation of the assigned regulatory reports in an accurate and timely manner in accordance with US GAAP and instructions from regulatory authorities, which requires working knowledge of financial accounting and regulatory reporting, as well as understanding of the financial industry and products. you will be responsible for regulatory reports across all entities under the Combined US Operations. Additionally, the FRR team produces and monitors MIS reporting derived from regulatory reporting data for management oversight. You possess strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of financial regulations, and a proven track record in managing regulatory reporting teams.

Core Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Participate in the development and execution of a strategic vision for the FRR function, aligning with organizational goals and regulatory expectations. Lead and manage the FRR team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure team effectiveness and individual growth.

  • FRR Reporting Oversight: Take ownership of the end-to-end reporting process for the assigned reports, managing the preparation, validation, and submission of assigned daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual and ad-hoc regulatory reports including, but not limited to, Federal Reserve reports (e.g. FR Y-15, FR Y-9C, FFIEC 031, FFIEC 002, FFIEC 009, FFIEC 019, FR2644, and FR2900,), Department of Treasury reports (TIC Reports), and Department of Commerce reports (e.g. BE-605, BE-15, and BE-125) in adherence to regulatory requirements. Identify opportunities for process improvements and lead the automation initiatives linked to the ongoing migration to Axiom.

  • Governance and Controls Refinement: Lead initiatives to refine the governance and compensating controls for the reporting process of assigned reports, ensuring a robust framework that aligns with regulatory expectations. Maintain comprehensive documentation of reporting processes, methodologies, and assumptions. Provide support during internal and external audits.

  • Data Explanation Processes: Develop comprehensive processes for investigating historical changes in the reporting data and downstream MIS reports, providing explains on data variations, establishing escalation procedures, and ensuring clear documentation of the underlying drivers. Monitor and ensure that changes in the reporting instructions and accounting standards made by the regulatory authorities and changes from new products and businesses are incorporated within the reports submitted.

  • Regulatory Interaction: Serve as the primary SME for regulatory inquiries about the assigned reports, fostering a collaborative relationship and ensuring compliance with regulatory expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting major is preferred. Advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g. CPA, CFA) is preferred.

  • 7- 10 years of experience in financial reporting, regulatory reporting, or related field. Proven ability to lead and inspire a team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide strategic insights into complex financial data.

  • In-depth understanding of financial regulations and reporting requirements. Demonstrated experience in refining governance and compensating controls within a regulatory reporting context.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders. Prior experience interfacing with regulators.

  • Flexibility to adapt to changes in regulations and business requirements while guiding the team through transitions.

  • Strong ability to handle multiple tasks.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

  • Experience in BI tools such as Alteryx or Power Bi is a plus.

The expected base salary ranges from $150,000 - $220,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
