What does a successful VP, SMB Product Strategy & Implementation do at Fiserv?

As the market leader in financial technology, we know that cash flow sits at the heart of what a small business does every single day. With 3500+ financial institutions in our client base, we can empower our bank partners to take back and win the SMB wallet share. Through an integration of our existing products, we are on a mission to provide the best set of solutions for a small business in market, and enable our bank partners to capture this market.

What you will do:

This role has three primary areas of focus for product strategy and ownership: 1) small business solutions “bundle”, 2) global small business products, and 3) product leadership. The role has the potential for continued expansion based on business progression and performance. Expectations are high – this individual needs to develop / establish influence through partnership with internal teams, including a globally diverse set of stakeholders.

This individual will be critical to the success of our focus on SMB at the enterprise level and will have high visibility across business units and the executive team. They need to excel at “connecting the dots”, operating within ambiguity and synthesizing inputs, feedback and data from multiple stakeholders and sources. We are activating a brand new value proposition for Fiserv, and this role is the critical position to develop and execute on product direction in partnership with SVP.

Small Business Solutions “Bundle”

  • Product roadmap: development and maintain centralized, integrated roadmap across business units and products that are included in the Fiserv small business solutions “bundle” – including, but not limited to, Cash Flow Central, XD, Clover, Commercial Centre,

  • FI Enablement: own the product development, feature recommendations, and roadmap for products supporting the FI channel, e.g. the Merchant Digital Onboarding capability, ROI models,

  • Internal Sales / Relationship Communication: drive product marketing / communications into Fiserv organization (sales, relationship management, product teams); drive the development of supporting materials, training and evangelize the mission of transitioning from “merchant services” to “small business” value proposition in the FI channel

  • Commercialization: partner closely with the Sr. Director of Market Strategy / Commercialization on split of responsibilities for commercialization execution – this role will focus on internal / product commercialization v. market fit commercialization; includes pricing, compliance, amendment creation, sales / marketing materials, etc.

  • Client Engagement: partner with sales and relationship management teams for meeting support with clients on SMB solutions – requires ability to present with confidence, and appropriately represent team and Fiserv brand in the clients’ office

  • Roadmap: centrally maintain and manage roadmap internally - ensure awareness / support for combined view of Fiserv Small Business Solutions; develop proactive process for sourcing input / feedback from internal teams

  • Global: identify features and aspects of the small business solution bundle that can feed into global product roadmap

  • Financials: tightly manage roadmap to financial expectations / targets and outcomes (annual operating plan / long-range plan), including Investor and Board of Director commitments

Global Small Business, in partnership with EMEA, APAC, LATAM

  • Global product strategy: leverage insights and data points from the industry / market, Fiserv market position to develop clear recommendation on roadmap prioritization and market distribution supporting SMBs (note: this is a separate exercise from Enterprise Merchant roadmap)

  • Global stakeholder management: centralize the process for vision alignment, input / feedback on feature roadmap (global and localized by market), manage priorities for in flight and new initiatives for Clover platform across regions;

  • Product roadmap: meeting regularly with the regional teams; consolidating and synthesizing inputs to develop and maintain global product roadmap

  • Clover product engagement: partner very closely with Clover and Cash Flow Central product development teams on inputs / feedback; drive capacity and staffing needs against roadmap

  • Executive alignment: key participant / leader on monthly global steering committees with Management Committee; read out of progress, facilitate discussion on open questions with SVP

  • Financials: tightly manage roadmap to financial expectations / targets across regions and outcomes (annual operating plan / long-range plan)

Goals/KPIs:

  • Revenue / margin for business

  • Overall impact on multiple expansion (along with SVP)

  • Little to no client friction / negative experience with small business solutions

Leadership Expectations:

  • Hire product manager support in first 6-12 months following assessment of need

  • Member of FI Channel & SMB leadership team, expectation to serve as example for others

  • Partner on graduate recruiting for MBA / undergraduates to develop talent funnel in NYC

  • Expectations to be “all in” and demonstrate excitement for remit internally and externally, effectively representing Fiserv and team brand, and evangelizing SMB focus

  • Potential expansion of support based on role need, expansion opportunities and capability – SVP commitment to meet quarterly on talent development and progress

What you will need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience.

  • Minimum 10 years of strategy or product management

  • Strategy experience with an emphasis on business growth strategy

  • Ability to travel up to 15-30%, primarily internal travel

  • Advanced degree a plus, but not necessary

  • 10 years of experience with proven experience with partnership, credit operations and delivery; with most of the experience in leadership roles, operational consulting a positive

  • Exceptional PowerPoint and Excel skills, including strategy and financial presentation development

  • Understanding and knowledge of business financial practices and accounting

  • Experience in data-driven management, metrics and reporting

  • Ability to lead and motivate and drive cross-functional teams

  • Proven ability to understand complex business concepts

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to build consensus

  • Exceptional communication and presentation abilities to interact at all levels of the clients from C-level to technical and operation levels

  • Solid thought leadership and the ability to influence others through collaborative efforts

  • An ability to quickly establish credibility and rapport with a broad set of constituencies

  • Strong results orientation with demonstrated track record of success to effectively complete tactical activities

  • A high degree of adaptability and flexibility to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Important info about this role:

  • Role is based at 1 Broadway in New York City

  • 4 days / week in the office, with flexibility on Fridays on as needed basis; as VP, expected to make effort to be in office on Fridays

  • Approximately 10-15% travel throughout the year to various Fiserv offices

Salary Range

$193,600.00 - $319,700.00
