About the Role

The VP, Global Real Estate & Facilities Management (GRE&FM) will set the direction for the function and lead a global team of Real Estate professionals. The role will report directly to the Head of Services function.

Primary focus areas of the role include:

  • Lead, develop and support the Thomson Reuters GRE&FM team and external partners with the mission of providing a modern, productive and efficient workplace.
  • Partner with business leaders, Business Development (M&A), operational partners (People, Risk & Resilience, Technology and Finance) and other cross-functional stakeholders to understand and align requirements.
  • Drive excellence and consistency in Real Estate, Facility Operations and Workplace Design.
  • Lead development of Real Estate and Workplace strategies that support a dynamic business.
  • Participate and lead in the development of the Services business function as a member of the senior leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership:

  • Provide leadership, mentorship and strategic direction to a high-performing team of senior real estate professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
  • Lead and inspire cross-functional teams to deliver complex real estate projects, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and industry best practices.
  • Foster a collaborative environment that encourages open communication, knowledge sharing, and professional growth among team members and stakeholders.

Real Estate Strategy:

  • Partner to develop and execute the real estate strategy and planning for financial, employee and business optimization.
  • Review and analyze market trends, operating expenses, business requirements, space utilization, and other factors to support portfolio effectiveness.
  • Lead due diligence analysis on real estate transactions including but not limited to, acquisition, divestiture, leases, sale leasebacks and terminations; management of lifecycle of physical assets including lease administration.
  • Critically evaluate the tradeoffs between cost savings, standardization and flexibility as the company continues to grow both organically and through acquisition.

Facilities Management:

  • Oversee and govern global facility management standards and execution. Engage and partner with the external service providers that are contractually responsible for delivering these services.

Project Management:

  • Lead and partner on the execution of capital projects tied to real estate transactions and facility investments.
  • Utilize Global Design Standards for consistency and project efficiency.

Real Estate Transaction Management:

  • Partner with the businesses to determine requirements.
  • Engage with Workplace Solutions for collaborative review of internal Thomson Reuters portfolio options for potential collocation opportunities.
  • Engage real estate service provider(s) to develop market options
  • Lead the identification of design needs and project costs, and report back to business the recommended option.
  • Exhibit financial acumen to strategically make decisions, engage in negotiations, evaluate issues and propose solutions.

Workplace Strategy:

  • In partnership with other internal stakeholders, develop and implement innovative workplace strategies to optimize experience, productivity and ensure Thomson Reuters competitiveness.
  • Maintain strategies and standards, while coordinating across the different regions and with capability guidelines.

Process Management:

  • Lead the development and utilization of the real estate transaction approval process globally.
  • Develop business case methodology for implementing property transactions working directly with other GRE&FM leaders to execute real estate strategies.

Database Management:

  • Lead the development and utilization of global data to make real estate decisions.

Reporting, Lease Audits & Tax Appeals:

  • Develop and support global reporting requirements with a focus on identifying cost saving initiatives.

Acquisition and Disposition:

  • Responsible for real estate related acquisition due diligence activities. This includes site reviews, lease analysis and determination of financial, operational, and environmental risks and opportunities required as part of overall M&A process.
  • Post acquisition, this role will lead and manage activities to successful conclusion.

About You

You're a fit for the VP, Global Real Estate & Facilities Management role if your background includes:

  • Minimum of 12-15 years in a corporate real estate, finance, real estate planning and technology, workforce management and operations, or consulting role with a large organization. Ideal experience would include 7-9 years of real estate experience and 5-7 years negotiation experience.
  • Strong finance background and expertise in real estate. Capable of operating with a high degree of autonomy in making decisions and implementing systemic changes.
  • Desirable experience in integrating corporate real estate portfolios post-acquisitions, supporting both organic and inorganic growth. Ability to optimize portfolios for business and cultural performance in a global context.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop team members, regardless of reporting relationships. Demonstrated ability to be a proactive, strategic partner and leader in collaboration with other senior leaders.
  • Proven track record in developing, executing, and managing real estate strategies aligned with corporate objectives. Ability to be a proactive, strategic partner to senior leaders and articulate a compelling vision.
  • Proficiency in real estate-related negotiations and contract management. Strong client-facing capabilities and experienced influencer in dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in strategic planning, worldwide operations, and managing international, multi-location organizations. Broad knowledge of developing and implementing global reporting processes.
  • Ability to manage complex projects in dynamic business environments with limited resources. Skilled at prioritizing and managing multiple administrative processes concurrently over various time frames.
  • Comprehensive understanding of property and building lifecycle, including acquisition, disposition, and lease administration. Knowledge of all real estate and operational processes associated with multi-location, international organizations.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills. Ability to develop firm-wide relationships across borders, balance diverse needs, and collaborate effectively with internal and external clients. Strong customer relationship management skills for stakeholder management and a collegial, cooperative work style.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following metro locations: Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $192,500 - $357,500. The base compensation range in other locations may vary. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
