Dow Jones VP, FP&A, B2B in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

The VP FP&A (B2B) is responsible for all aspects of FP&A work for our B2B products and will act as a trusted advisor to the EVP, Business Information and Services. This role will lead a team of FP&A professionals in the US and UK in support of the Sales, Product, Marketing, Technology, Content and Operations functions across B2B. They will lead the annual budgeting and long range planning process, oversee monthly forecasting and provide strategic guidance and financial counsel to the B2B business partners.

We see many opportunities to scale this business over the coming years through both organic and inorganic projects. The candidate should demonstrate a thorough knowledge of investment analysis and be able to play a key role in any associated M&A activities.

This individual will work directly with the B2B leadership team to assist in reporting, forecasting and analyzing financial and operational results, as well as conducting analyses to support better business decisions.

Collaboration across Finance is a prerequisite for this role as we look to develop both the FP&A (B2B) capabilities and efficiencies and also contribute to department-wide projects. This role will act as a thought leader and help to promote and drive best practice, adoption of new techniques, tools and methodologies as well as help shape culture within the team including taking responsibility for the personal development of the B2B FP&A team, providing objectives, goals, feedback and coaching.

Position Location: New York City Office

You will:

  • Manage a team of 8 based in New York, Princeton and London

  • Be a custodian of the B2B budget/forecasts which fall under the following:

  • Risk and Compliance

  • Factiva

  • Dow Jones Newswires

  • OPIS (Oil Price Information Service, and

  • CMA (Chemical Market Analytics)

  • Serve as a conduit to sales and product to ensure alignment in approach and strategy between the two areas

  • Work closely with sales ops to focus on process improvements both within the B2B business but also the corresponding support functions (legal, comp, other areas of finance)

  • Provide counsel and ensure alignment between the EVP (Head of B2B) and CRO so that they remain focused on corporate goals and mission

  • Provide council to the GMs on strategy, investments asks and B2B vision - also ensure their alignment with sales and their voice to the CRO as needed

  • Support development and submission of investment asks. Challenge assumptions, present alternative scenarios and then assist with building the right story

  • Ensure CFO is kept abreast of potential issues, prepped ahead of meetings, given direction on where to probe deeper

  • Develop cross functional partnerships both within and outside of Finance to collaborate on ad hoc project work

  • Be the business’ voice when they require that assistance

  • Liaise with GM’s and review, validate and challenge all requests

  • Help shape B2B growth plans

  • Provide financial and strategic input into group, investor and executive reports and presentations

  • Drive team to achieve operational efficiencies and improve their ways of working

  • Collaborate across finance functions to ensure adherence to US GAAP and other reporting and compliance standards. A working knowledge of general accounting practices would be advantageous.

You Hav:

  • A BA/BS in business or related, a professional accounting qualification or similar

  • 7-10 years experience in an FP&A role; leadership experience required

  • Experience of working within a B2B subscription business (at scale) and a thorough knowledge of the broader market and strategic opportunities

  • Excellent financial modelling experience and skills

  • Exceptional analytical skills

  • First rate communication skills, and have the ability and confidence to challenge, influence, and drive change at the highest level across functions

  • Proven leadership experience

  • M&A experience would be an advantage

  • Experience in managing change would also be a significant advantage

  • Experience with finance tools (SAP, Google Suite, Microsoft Suite).
