Position Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Chia-Wei Cheng, is seeking an experienced and research-oriented laboratory technician. Dr. Cheng's research team studies the metabolic cell-fate determinants of intestinal stem cells in homeostasis and adaptation to diet. Dr. Cheng's laboratory is employing a variety of cross-disciplinary approaches including primarily genetic mouse models and organoid culture system. Current projects investigate the therapeutic potential of nutrient and metabolite signaling in treating cancer, diabetes and age-related degenerative diseases.

Reporting to the PI and working under the day-to-day direction of senior lab members, the technician will help with the proper running of the laboratory and perform analyses related to a wide range of experiments both in a supervised and independent manner. This is an opportunity for the right candidate to strengthen his/her laboratory skills as part of a dynamic laboratory team at the forefront of stem cell research.

Responsibilities

  • Perform experiments under the direction of senior lab personnel, or conduct independently components of such experiments, which may include areas such as preclinical animal studies, tissue collection and dissection, cell/tissue/organoid culture and histologic examination and molecular analyses.
  • Record and track experimental results accurately.
  • Assist with genotyping and management of mouse colonies.
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies, perform assays.
  • Prepare solutions adhering to specific instructions, and maintain equipment or specific laboratory resources.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program or equivalent in education, training and experience.
  • Hands-on experiences in biological sciences laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and system training requirements.
  • Have work or research experience in cell cultures and handling rodent models.
  • Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques preferred. One year of related experience preferred.
  • Interested in participating publication and applying academic M.S./Ph.D. program.
  • Must be detail-focused and organized.
  • Must be able to take instructions and execute assignments working independently, seeking clarification and guidance where needed.
  • Must demonstrate critical thinking skills and an aptitude for ongoing learning development, especially with regard to complex instrumentation and technology.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and aptitude for learning; this position offers the opportunity to strengthen laboratory and research skills, and build new ones.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to adapt and work as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to ask questions and provide updates on work progress clearly and with sufficient technical detail.
