The anticipated salary range for this role is between $82,000.00 and $125,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

The Tax Specialist is responsible for complying with federal, and state income for SMBC.

Role Objectives

  1. Preparation of foreign corporate tax return (Form 1120-F) and international information returns (Form 5472s)

  2. Prepare support schedules and preparation of federal and state tax returns for SMBC (annual and extension).

  3. Prepare quarterly estimated tax payments.

  4. Compile information of 300+ partnership Sch K-1s from Tokyo

  5. Assist federal tax audits and provide support to the state tax team with the filing of state tax returns, state audits, and state analyses.

  6. Collaborate with external tax advisors and cross-functional teams to support business objectives and drive strategic initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 3/4 years of experience in tax, with a focus on tax and accounting.

  • Bachelors Degree, in accounting and/or finance is preferred

  • Understanding of tax laws and regulations, ASC 740, and financial reporting under GAAP.

  • Ability to prepare tax returns using OneSource software.

  • Ability to communicate complex tax concepts and results effectively to controllers.

  • Knowledge and experience in Alteryx and automation of tax provision/return preparation is a plus.
