How you will create an impact

AIG is seeking a Tax Manager in our New York office location. This position will be responsible for the tax accounting analysis and documentation of significant transactions, including M&A activity, purchase accounting, and any divestiture activity for AIG. This role will support U.S. entity tax reporting and ensure transactions are properly reflected in the U.S. GAAP and NAIC financial statements.

This role will be responsible for the coordination of global SOX control activities, including direct responsibility for controls related to higher risk M&A and divestiture activities.

This role would suit an individual looking for exposure to a diverse range of accounting, tax technical, as well as operational issues in an insurance business.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Manage U.S. GAAP and U.S. Statutory tax accounting analysis and support U.S. Federal tax compliance related to significant transactions.

  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of the quarterly tax accounting and reporting related to M&A and divestiture activity, including purchase accounting implications, and calculation of tax basis and tax gain/loss.

  • Prepare analytics for senior management presentations, focusing on clearly and concisely explaining major impacts of M&A activity, including impact on cash tax liquidity, tax attribute utilization, effective tax rate and the consolidated and segment tax balance sheet.

  • Close collaboration with strategy teams in modelling scenarios for planning purposes.

  • Manage SOX and Internal Audit teams on tax accounting transaction related controls and documentation.

  • Global coordination of SOX controls activities. This includes recommending and implementing changes to enhance internal controls over tax items on a quarterly and annual basis and working with external auditors and internal audit teams.

  • Close collaboration with Tax Advisory, Tax Controversy and Finance teams on various projects and initiatives.

  • Assist with legal entity tax provisions reported in US GAAP and US STAT financial statements, as needed.

  • Support U.S. Tax Directors in the preparation of the annual tax return for significant transaction activity.

  • Ability to utilize and optimize tax provision software and workflow tools for financial close process enhancement and project management.

  • Research US GAAP pronouncements, U.S. STAT issues, tax technical issues, industry issues and peer companies to enhance AIG’s financial reporting capabilities, and draft tax accounting related memos.

  • Continuously monitor tax accounting implications of global tax law changes and assist in the interpretation of Corporate Alternative Minimum Tax guidance and OECD Pillar Two reporting, as needed.

  • Manage intercompany cash tax settlements for the AIG Consolidated U.S. tax group, including review of calculations and review of tax share agreements with Tax Advisory and Tax Directors.

  • Ad hoc support for special projects and initiatives.

What you’ll need to succeed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, MST / CPA preferred.

  • Fluent English.

    Key Experience

  • At least 5+ years’ experience in tax accounting and financial reporting in a large corporation or public accounting firm.

  • Experience advising on complex tax accounting and technical issues.

  • Experience in collaborating with other Tax and Finance areas and ability to work together as part of a team toward a common objective.

  • Experience of operating at a management level.

    Key Capabilities

  • Knowledge and experience with ASC 740 and tax accounting under US GAAP requirements.

  • Knowledge of U.S. insurance statutory reporting a plus.

  • Knowledge of corporate taxation and of the end to end tax cycle.

  • Experience in navigating the financial close process.

  • Strong MS Excel skills.

  • Strong financial and operational acumen.

  • A good communicator, with the ability to explain issues in a simple and concise manner, both orally and in writing.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work with professionals from varying backgrounds and cultures.

  • Resilient and driven.

  • Ability to work as part of a team, build relationships and collaborate towards a common objective.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Experience with OneSource Tax Provision software a plus.

  • Flexible and motivated personality.

The base salary range is $105,000 - $148,000.00, and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
