Supervising Producer, Development, WSJ YouTube in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a supervising development producer to help lead a team of short-form video producers to create timely video features, recurring franchises and in-depth explainers for our WSJ YouTube channel.

Top candidates for this position have excellent editorial and team-management skills, as well as a track record of developing creative approaches to video storytelling. You will be expected to partner with stakeholders across all of our coverage areas to generate new video ideas and work with a team to execute stories under tight deadlines.

This is a hands-on role and we are seeking a well-versed producer who has created a range of video concepts. You will function as the idea generator in collaboration with other producers and video journalists. You will be expected to attend editorial meetings with a wide range of ideas on a variety of topics.

In this position you will guide video journalists through research and pre-production, oversee field and studio production, and help craft stories in post production.

The position is based in our New York City office and reports to the Executive Producer of the WSJ YouTube team.

You will:

  • Oversee, conceive and drive the development and execution of new creative for the development team.

  • Research, pitch, write and produce hard news and feature videos of interest to the existing WSJ audience, as well as to new viewers on our YouTube channel.

  • Work with the executive producer in managing a team of producers, video journalists and graphics editors to produce breaking news, enterprise journalism and feature pieces, as well as develop and execute original series ideas.

  • Collaborate with producers in honing story angles, reviewing pre-interviews, editing written video treatments and shooting schedules.

  • Provide advice when troubleshooting unexpected production issues in the field.

  • Provide clear and productive notes on scripts and videos during the editing process.

  • Ensure that all WSJ journalistic and legal standards are followed at all times.

  • Mentor junior staff members to develop skills and provide opportunities for growth.

  • Manage budgets for one-off and series projects.

  • Work late hours and weekends as news developments may warrant.

  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

You have:

  • At least eight years of experience working in digital video production at a national or global media company.

  • Experience with teams focused on development and new formats.

  • Excellent development skills, including running pitch meetings and creative brainstorms.

  • Experience editing short, mid and long-form videos using Adobe Premiere, knowledge of After Effects is a plus.

  • Clear communication skills, with exceptional written and presentation skills.

NYC Pay Range: $65,000 - $200,000
