The Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?
The Tanzu Observability by Wavefront Site Reliability Engineering team is growing with a laser focus on ensuring the Tanzu Observability SaaS offering operates reliably and at scale.
This role offers many opportunities for applying your creativity and skills to a cutting-edge cloud-native observability platform that leads the industry in scalability and usability. We are a growing team which delivers a SaaS product that is used 24/7 by development and site-reliability teams at leading enterprises such as Lyft, Doordash, Reddit, Snowflake, Intuit, Box, Workday, and many more!
The fully-remote SRE team you’ll join is responsible for thousands of cloud instances in multiple regions at scale and our footprint continues to grow! You should be experienced and enjoy working remotely within a fully remote and distributed team.
What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
As a Staff level Cloud Platform Engineer, you will be designing the SaaS infrastructure that delivers our observability product. You will help ensure that our Tanzu Observability infrastructure is well architected, leveraging the optimal services and technologies for each use case, and meets our scalability, availability, performance, and cost targets.
You will be working closely with software architects, product engineers, product managers, and the release team as you design and implement the necessary cloud platform solutions.
We also need someone who is passionate about automation, infrastructure as a code, and configuration as a code, that will help drive improvements towards the availability, management, and visibility of Tanzu Observability by Wavefront's infrastructure and services. In this role, you may take part in the on-call rotation.
What differentiates Tanzu Observability in the current observability landscape is our scalable and extremely powerful data platform and UI, and you will play a key role in taking our platform to the next level.
Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Demonstrate knowledge of cloud architecture security, scaling, and management principles and have experience working with AWS, GCP, or Azure cloud infrastructures.
Develop a SaaS platform architectural strategy and roadmap that addresses our scalability, availability, performance, and cost objectives.
Work hand-in-hand with the development team to investigate platform issues and design/implement the necessary solutions.
Understand and recommend the use of newly available SaaS provider components/services.
Work on solutions to allow our product to operate independent of the cloud provider platform.
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
As a key member of Tanzu Observability team, you will:
Provide design documentation to support the SaaS architecture roadmap and work with the team to refine the effort so that it is Sprint ready.
Participate in monthly roadmap planning to develop quarterly goals for the team.
Act as a leader on the team through mentoring others, working collaboratively with the team, and drive project scoping and execution.
Participate in the learning culture at Tanzu Observability and attend and maybe even give tech talks.
Be a self-starter with a high attention to detail.
Have good communication and presentation skills.
Be able to collaborate remotely via Slack/Zoom etc.
Once comfortable with travel and as supported by the company, be willing to travel occasionally for strategy sessions, team building events, etc.
We know from experience that not ticking every box on the skills sections stops many from applying. Please apply regardless of your self-assessment -- we want to hear from you! We have seen engineers succeed with a diverse range of skills and experiences.
