Description

The candidate will participate in studies of neurodevelopmental disease mechanisms with emphasis on mouse models of epilepsy and will be mentored by Dr. Tristan Sands, Assistant Professor of Neurology. Qualified candidates should have expertise in cellular and molecular biology, mouse husbandry and basic genetics and neuroanatomy. The Staff Associate will also co-supervise more junior laboratory staff and help trainees learn and troubleshoot new techniques and will assist with ordering and laboratory management.

Expected to utilize analytical skills and exercise judgment based on prior education and experience. Carries out research projects with limited supervision using independent judgment. Expectation for demonstrating initiative depending on qualifications.

Operates and maintains equipment and research tools and uses them appropriately in keeping with an understanding of these instruments and their use.

Successful candidate is expected to exercise independent judgment with regard to problem solving and demonstrate initiative in the conduct of the research in accordance with their qualifications. The Staff Associate will also co-supervise more junior laboratory staff and help trainees learn and troubleshoot new techniques and will assist with ordering and laboratory management.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least four years of experience and have, or perform at the level of, a master's degree. Staff associate should be capable of functioning with limited supervision.

Qualified candidates should have expertise in cellular and molecular biology, mouse husbandry and basic genetics and neuroanatomy. Specific expertise with techniques and methodologies used in neuroscience research is highly preferred.

With greater than 4 years of experience, the requirement of a master's degree or higher may be waived on a case by case basis depending of the number of years of experience and the quality of that experience.
