Balance Sheet and Capital Management (BSCM) is a specialized team responsible for ensuring an effective and efficient use of Services’ balance sheet with the goal of improving return on capital measures. Capital Allocation and Management Lead - Director will play a critical leadership role in Services’ capital and balance sheet strategy by advocating for appropriate methodologies to attribute TCE and for managing and coordinating Services’ capital requirements across component businesses. The successful candidate will report to Head of BSCM, Trade & Working Capital Solutions and take a holistic view across multiple data sources including RWA, GSIB, Return on Capital, and Reserves to provide key insights to the Services senior leadership team.
Key responsibilities:
Develop robust allocation methodologies for Services, though close collaboration with senior leadership, in order to appropriately measure risks and returns of Services’ business lines (including both TCE and FTP allocations)
Build processes to check that Treasury charges are implemented correctly and in alignment with allocation methodologies
Manage Services’ capacities, including allocating and monitoring monthly RWA limits for Products
Optimize Services’ mix of business and capital allocation to maximize overall risk-adjusted returns
Drive initiatives to drive higher returns and to get more business done with the same RWA (i.e. lower Risk-weight density through business selection and distribution)
Coordinate with TWCS Asset Distribution team to identify and execute RWA mitigation trades
Competencies:
Exceptional communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level, and a strong voice and presence needed to represent Services in Citi-wide forums
Creative skills necessary to craft persuasive, well-researched narratives for senior consumption
Must be able to quickly create concise, informative executive summaries for stakeholders that convey a well-developed “story” and advocate for a well-reasoned point of view
Strong interpersonal skills to identify and resolve conflict to mitigate roadblocks
Attention to detail with proven ability to distil complex ideas into simple stories
Strong audit / compliance instincts and ability to apply independent judgment to historical business practices, with a proven ability and willingness to challenge the status quo
Ability to connect business strategy with capital usage and understand the complex end-to-end data process for capital calculation in order to effect change
Innovation mind set, intellectual curiosity and personal drive to peel back multiple layers in order to identify root cause issues
Ability to work under pressure in a highly professional environment
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or related fields; advanced degree is a plus
10+ years relevant experience in the Financial Services industry e.g. Treasury, Capital Management & Planning, Quantitative Risk Management, Analytics
Strong familiarity with Bank Balance Sheet and Capital Management including Basel Capital Requirements, Liquidity Regulations, Asset Liability Management, Funds Transfer Pricing, Interest Rate Risk Management and methodology. Familiarity with internal allocation methodologies is a plus, as is a good understanding of CCAR, and knowledge of and interest in Basel III legislature (including relevant upcoming regulatory reform)
Established Influencing/leadership skills with the ability to mediate discussions and draw consensus
Strong problem solving skills with an ability to rapidly assimilate complex information across a variety of financial disciplines
Excellent communication skills, oral and written, with the ability to converse with a wide variety of people across functions / seniority
