Sr. Network Engineer

Full-Time

Overview:

Supports the HSS network infrastructure. Configures, installs and tests device connections to the network, monitors and controls network traffic and access security. Diagnoses and resolves network and communications problems. Works with LAN/WAN, Wireless and Firewall technologies including but not limited to Ethernet, BGP & OSPF routing protocols, MPLS, metro Ethernet, Fiber Channel and fiber optic cabling. Supports VPN remote access services. Assists in the research, evaluation and selection of network systems and devices for the appropriate technology and cost effectiveness to meet HSS needs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Follows department policies and procedures. Assists in developing department goals and policies and procedures, quality assurance programs and safety standards, and implements.

  • Maintains and develops competence through required in-service and continuing educational programs.

  • Maintains department facilities and Data Center and equipment in good condition to promote efficiency and safety of staff.

  • Maintains documentation, records and reports for functional areas as well as change management logs.

  • Maintains professional growth and development for self and staff, through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations, to keep abreast of latest trends in computers and networking.

  • Maintains required records, reports, and statistics as directed.

  • Monitors network traffic and performance, to ensure continuous, reliable communications for all users, and generates usage statistics.

  • Assists in developing and implementing department policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of service. Ensures that all code and regulatory requirements are met as appropriate.

  • Observes and respects the privacy and confidentiality of information in accordance with HIPAA policies and procedures.

  • Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings as required. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Participates in Strategic Improvement Process activities as appropriate and requested including team membership.

  • Participates in the planning, selection and implementation of all hardware, software, and services for Communications (LAN & WAN) and Network to meet the needs of the hospital, physicians and research areas.

  • Prepare and maintain complete records and diagrams of network configuration, cable routing, access points, network and communication hardware and connected devices. Documents hardware locations, serial numbers and service history.

  • Promotes a professional atmosphere through courteous communication, cooperation, and respect for patients, visitors and members of the health care team.

  • Responds to customer concerns as soon as possible with compassion and understanding.

  • Set-up and maintain complete records of network security, and monitor user access.

  • Assists User Support Manager in development and evolution of PC based network client standards.

  • Complies with policies and procedures concerning infection control and safety in order to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

  • Configure, install and test connections and devices to be added to the hospital network or other communications facilities.

  • Coordinates and integrates services within the department and with other departments. Analyzes, evaluates, and solves inter and intra departmental technical problems, as applicable.

  • Diagnose problems in the network, communications facilities, and connected devices, provide first level repair, and coordinate vendor maintenance services.

  • Assists Managers/Directors in managing the scope, cost, schedule, quality, and success of assigned applications and the project.

  • Assists in the research, evaluation and selection of network systems and devices for the appropriate technology and cost effectiveness to meet hospital needs.

    Additional Requirements:

  • The candidate will be highly proficient with both interior routing protocols (OSPF) and exterior routing protocol (BGP).

  • Have a high degree of experience with WAN topologies such as MPLS and Metro Ethernet.

  • A strong security background is a huge plus and considered a differentiator

  • Experience with Juniper EX series switches and MX Series service provider class routers.

  • Experience with Pulse Secure SSL VPN

  • Cisco ASA and Palo Alto Firewall experience is a requirement.

Qualifications

Education:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science/Information Technology/Computer Engineering.

  • Juniper and/or Cisco Network Engineering certification is highly desirable such as CCNA or CCIE and or JNCIE-ENT or SP or JNCP-ENT or SP

    Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in computer communications and installation and maintenance of communications and computer equipment coupled with minimum of 5 years exp. with cabling, communications, desktop software, TCP/IP, LAN/WAN technology, networks, UNIX and network security.

USD $120,000.00/Yr.

Pay Range - Maximum

USD $161,000.00/Yr.
