This position is hybrid - Tuesday - Thursday in the New York Office and Monday and Friday work from home.

The Sustainability Senior Associate will play a key role in reporting and engagement within the Sustainability team at New York Life (NYL). This is a cross-functional, fast-paced role that requires the ability to multitask, set priorities and meet demanding deadlines. This role also requires excellent communication and writing skills, as well as superb professionalism, as the role interacts with employees, senior management, and external stakeholders regularly.

The Sustainability Senior Associate responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and manage NYL Green Team, which includes leading monthly meetings, developing volunteer and education events, growing, and supporting the Green Team leadership network nationally, and expanding the program to generate business impact.

  • Manage our responses to RPFs and third-party surveys across the business, and work with legal and compliance, where necessary.

  • Lead data collection, manage our reporting tool, and aid in accurate data verification for annual Corporate Responsibility Report

  • Support the preparation of annual report, Steering Committee materials, and other supporting information, as needed.

  • Support internal education initiatives including our internal webinar series.

  • Participate in working groups related to emissions reductions and reporting and help develop high quality meeting materials.

  • Monitor our ESG ratings and rankings, help respond to annual ratings surveys, and provide recommendations on areas of continued improvement.

  • Maintain our internal sustainability sites for employees and agents and develop and post content.

  • Conduct general research and benchmarking on sustainability related topics and frameworks.

  • Participate in broader department and NYL Foundation initiatives and act as a steward for the department with employees and agents.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sustainability or related field

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the demonstrated ability to work across all levels of the organization, including the C-suite.

  • Willingness and ability to learn and adapt quickly

  • Ability to move between projects and pivot quickly as priorities change

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; exceptional accuracy and attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, as needed

  • Working knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks and ratings including: GRI, IFRS, TCFD, SASB, CSRD, EcoVadis, MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS

  • Strong background in greenhouse gas emissions accounting and GHG Protocol; familiarity with PCAF.

  • Strong project management skills

  • High degree of professionalism with strong interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on providing exceptional customer service to all stakeholders and partners across the organization

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality; good judgment and diplomacy

  • Strong proficiency with MS Office suite, particularly strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
