Scholastic Publicity Assistant in New York, New York

Job Description:

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Publicity Assistant position is an exciting opportunity to learn the business of children’s books from the world’s leading publisher of content for kids. This role requires a highly-organized individual with meticulous attention to detail and strong communication skills. The Scholastic Publicity Department is a fast-paced environment with multiple projects going on at once. The position will be responsible for a variety of tasks including media mailing organization and tracking, creating press materials, booking author travel, etc . Additionally, this role will act as the primary publicity contact for 15–20 authors per season, securing media coverage, booking school visits and other events.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Vice President and the Publicity department with administrative duties including mailings, routing projects, tracking reviews, galley orders, etc.

  • Manage monthly galley mailing process

  • Pitch media for reviews, author interviews, seasonal roundups, and other coverage

  • Plan and execute author events, including travel booking

  • Track media coverage and maintain correspondence with trade journals

  • Create and format pitch documents and PowerPoint decks

  • Manage and process invoices on behalf of the department

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be highly organized with meticulous attention to detail

  • A self-starter who is resourceful and can work independently, as well as part of a team

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Passion for children’s books a plus

Experience: Publicity internship experience a plus but not required
