The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Faculty Director and the Associate Director of the Center for Science and Society, the Program Manager of the Co-production of Knowledge Initiative is responsible for programmatic strategy and organization of the Center for Science and Society's Co-production of Knowledge Initiative, which focuses on interdisciplinary, collaborative responses to climate and environmental problems. The role is organized around three strategic objectives: the Network for Community-Driven Co-Production; grant programs; and curriculum development. The Program Manager will work closely with research and advisory faculty, postdoctoral scholars, students, grantees, the Columbia Climate School, and a number of external stakeholders.

This position is funded as part of the Center's Co-Production Initiative in collaboration with the Climate School.

Responsibilities

Manage and oversee the Network on Community-Driven Co-production of Knowledge - 40%

Includes: planning events and conferences including informal internal workshops, knowledge mobilization events, and community building activities; overseeing community engagement activities; building and maintain relationships with community partners.

Manage grants programs awarded by the Center - 35%

Includes: creation and dissemination of call for applications for grant programs; organizing grant review process; managing fund disbursement; help mentor grantees during project planning and implementation.

Assist with curriculum development - 10%

Includes: assist in development of new course offerings; facilitate experiential learning projects and their inclusion into existing courses; liaise with necessary administrative offices to procure approval for new courses and degree programs.

Other tasks - 10%

Participate in fundraising and development; prepare fiscal year budget; prepare presentations and reports as required; oversee communication and marketing efforts.

Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested - 5%

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience required.

2 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Academic background in climate humanities and/or science, environmental studies, ecological sciences, anthropology, sociology, history, science and technology studies, or another relevant field.

Experience with or strong interest in community-based participatory research; and experience with facilitation techniques are a strong plus.

Background in digital communications, with specific competencies in social media marketing, basic video editing, website content development, Google Analytics, and marketing databases also preferred.

Existing knowledge of and experience with University financial policies and financial systems (ARC) a plus.

Other Requirements

Two-years of related work experience, preferably working with community groups, or in a program management role within a university or non-profit setting.

Knowledge of financial and general accounting principles required.

Excellent organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills essential.

Capable of energetic independent work, exercising independent judgment and initiative, and coordinating multiple responsibilities, often with competing priorities and deadlines.

Ability to effectively communicate and work with people from different backgrounds, cultures, career stages, and worldviews.

Strong knowledge of computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email programs, internet browsers, etc.), as well as the capacity to learn all relevant administrative systems used by Columbia University, is required.
