Description

The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology is seeking highly motivated individuals to join The Laboratory of Transfusion Biology. Our lab studies the red blood cell (RBC) and platelet (patho)physiology, factors that affect component quality for transfusion, and initiation of immune responses to RBC and platelet auto- and allo-antigens. The proposed projects include: (1) genetic and environmental factors that modulate RBC and platelet function during health and disease, (2) identification of risk factors for RBC and platelet alloimmunization, (3) elucidation of mechanisms underpinning enhanced alloimmune responses to reticulocytes, (4) understanding how the storage lesion affects individual RBC populations and platelets, (5) elucidating the mechanisms that lead to tolerance failure to RBC and platelet autoantigens, and (6) defining how diet and exercise affect RBC storage quality in vitro and post-transfusion efficacy in vivo. Most projects have require work with both murine models and samples from humans.

At CUIMC, we stand together because diverse experiences, perspective, and values enrich every dimension of our work. Join our team and see how your unique skills and experiences can create a real impact by changing lives.
