Description

The Department of Neurology, Division of Neurocritical Care at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is currently seeking candidates for a postdoctoral research position focusing on cognition, emotional and functional recovery after life-threatening cardiac conditions.

This position will be in Dr. Sachin Agarwal's NeuroCardiac Program within Neurology. The fellow will be able to contribute to an NIH-funded national-level study, POST-ICECAP, investigating the role of in-hospital factors, rehabilitation, and social determinants of health for long-term recovery outcomes in patients who have survived acute medical events (e.g., cardiac arrest). The fellow will work with methodologies related to in-person and remote assessments of cognition, emotion, neurological recovery, and quality of life. The position entails working on publications related to recently completed projects and ongoing data collection and management.

In addition to gaining direct mentorship from Dr. Agarwal, the postdoctoral fellow will receive additional, ongoing mentorship from the other co-investigators from rehabilitation, emergency medicine, and neuropsychology. Fellows will have the opportunity to interact with some of the innovative labs and Centers within CUIMC, including the Center for Research on People of Color, the Columbia Roybal Center for Fearless Behavior Change, and the Clinical Trials Core at the University of Michigan. The fellow will be provided with office space within Neurology, in the hub of the medical campus of CUIMC

The fellowship position's start date is though negotiable; the preferred start date would be as soon as possible. The position is full-time for one year with the possibility of renewal for an additional 1-2 years, contingent upon performance review. Annual salary is consistent with NIH guidelines. Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Completion of MD, PhD, or comparable doctoral degree by the fellowship program start date.
  • Training in psychology research or a related discipline with a preferred focus on Neuropsych, Health Psych, Clinical Psych, Rehab Psych, or social psych.
  • Prior experience with clinical/patient-oriented or behavioral research is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, as well as oral and written communication skills, including a record of work in research settings (e.g., presentations, publications, grants, etc.).
  • Demonstrated willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
