Job Description

The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment’s mission is to support and strengthen New York City’s creative economy and make it accessible to all. The agency currently comprises four divisions: the Film Office, which coordinates film and television production in public places; NYC Media, the largest municipal television and radio broadcasting entity in the country; Creative Sector Programs, which supports workforce development and the film, television, theater/live performance, music, publishing, advertising, and digital content industries; and the Press Credentials Office (PCO).

The PCO issues press credentials to journalists and newsgathering organizations, pursuant to NYC Administrative Code section 3-119.4 and Title 43, Chapter 16, of the Rules of the City of New York. In New York City, a valid City government-issued press credential entitles the holder to (1) cross police lines, fire lines or other restrictions, limitations or barriers established by the City at emergency, spot, or breaking news events and public events of a non-emergency nature where police lines, fire lines or other restrictions, limitations or barriers established by the City have been set up for security or crowd control purposes, and (2) attend events sponsored by the City government that are open to members of the press. The successful candidate will serve as an Office Manager reporting to the Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment (MOME).

Responsibilities will include:

  • Acknowledge and greet staff and visitors courteously, including by opening doors and assisting visitors, as needed;

  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor;

  • Manage access to the Press Credentials Unit office;

  • Monitor all staff and visitors entering and leaving the Press Credentials Unit office and require visitors to sign in;

  • Manage the reception area;

  • Provide administrative and clerical support by answering telephone inquiries, data entry, light filing, and receiving and sorting mail, including packages;

  • Intervene and calmly and efficiently diffuse situations as needed;

  • Conduct periodic patrols to check for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, security violations, blocked entrances and exits, mechanical problems, and unauthorized persons;

  • Write and maintain incident reports;

  • Assist with emergencies, as needed;

  • Coordinate with building security and other staff, as needed;

  • Perform special projects and initiatives as assigned.

HOURS/SHIFT

Day - Due to the necessary duties of this position in a 24/7 operation, candidate may be required to work various shifts such as weekends and/or nights/evenings.

Qualifications

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

  2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

  3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
