City of New York Motor Vehicle Supervisor in New York, New York

Job Description

The New York City Housing Authority’s Office of Fleet Services oversees the purchase, use, maintenance, and management of NYCHA vehicles, special equipment, and their related services. Fleet Services also monitors compliance with NYC Fleet and Vision Zero mandates, fuel and E-Z Pass rules, parking and traffic regulations, and driver safety initiatives. The dynamic Fleet Services team provides complete life cycle management (design / build, distribution, transportation, maintenance, and relinquishment) of a dynamic fleet, apprised of approximately 2,000 vehicles and horticultural equipment, throughout the five boroughs of NYC.

The office of Fleet Services is currently seeking a Motor Vehicle Supervisor to work within its Transportation Division. This position requires extensive towing operations. Duties shall include the following:

Towing Operations

  • Perform vehicle towing, recovery, and transport duties with precision and care.

  • Operate towing equipment such as flatbeds, wheel lifts, and wreckers in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Respond to service calls promptly and professionally.

  • Safely secure vehicles and equipment for transport and ensure they are properly fastened and protected.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and tow trucks.

  • Transport various types of vehicles and specialized equipment, including sedans, vans, trucks, ride-on motorized horticultural equipment and small construction equipment.

Vehicle Inspection

  • Conduct pre- and post-tow vehicle inspections to assess any damage and report findings.

  • Ensure that all safety precautions are followed during the towing process.

  • Check condition of incoming and outgoing motor vehicles and equipment.

  • Assist with dispatching personnel, motor vehicles and equipment to fulfill transportations requests and assignments.

  • Inspect garage activities and facilities to ensure compliance with established standards and practices.

  • Create and receive reports on the condition of motor vehicles and equipment repaired or needing repairs.

  • Investigate complaints on automotive servicing and operations.

  • Prepare and enforce routines of periodic oiling, lubrication, and washing of vehicles, their tire servicing, and the dispensing of gasoline as authorized for vehicular uses.

  • Initiate requisitions for needed supplies and automotive servicing equipment; work with vendors to obtain servicing, repairs, equipment, materials, and automotive supplies.

NOTE: CANDIDATES MUST POSSESS A VALID CDL CLASS-A TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION. YOU MUST CLEARLY STATE ON YOUR RESUME AND COVER LETTER YOUR DRIVER’S LICENSE CLASS. DRIVER’S LICENSES WILL BE VALIDATED AS A PART OF THE HIRING PROCESS AND ANYONE THAT DOES NOT POSSESS A VALID CDL CLASS-A LICENSE WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

Qualifications

  1. One year of permanent service in the title of Motor Vehicle Operator; or

  2. One year of full-time satisfactory experience as a motor vehicle dispatcher or manager of an automotive service garage.

License Requirement

A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements described above for Assignment Level I, at least:

a) one year in the title of Motor Vehicle Supervisor; or

b) one additional year of the full-time experience described in “2” above in a large automotive service garage.
