Dow Jones Motion Graphics Director, Video in NEW YORK, New York
The Wall Street Journal is seeking a Motion Graphics Director to join its global video team.
This person will be responsible for executing the creative vision for motion graphics and animation across all departments in video. This role sits at the intersection of editorial and animation in service of our journalistic mission, requiring a deep understanding of hands-on graphics and animation production. As graphics director you will add depth, context and guidance to stories while bringing challenging topics to life visually.
The successful candidate for this role will be a skilled manager and producer of motion graphics and animation, be capable of creating and overseeing informative and engaging graphics and able to tell animation-led news and feature stories. Exceptional management, technical skill, creativity and experience working under tight deadlines are essential for this role. You will be expected to successfully execute and oversee timely news projects under tight deadlines, as well as other projects with longer lead times.
The position will be based in New York and report to the Editorial Director of Video.

Manage a team of graphic storytellers to tell compelling news, feature and enterprise stories in creative ways using video, motion graphics and animation.
Translate complex stories into smart, informative video packages, as well as animate text, maps and charts.
Be responsible for all motion graphics and animation quality control department-wide.
Produce high-quality videos on deadline, including same-day pieces, along with graphics and animations for live streaming coverage.
Partner with reporters and editors across the newsroom to identify and produce timely video news pieces that are visually distinctive and of interest to the WSJ audience.
Be able to work late hours and weekends both as part of a regular weekend rotation and as news developments may warrant.
At least 10 years of professional experience producing graphic animations and at least three years as a manager.
An ability to tell stories in creative ways using graphics and animation.
A deep understanding of current events, U.S. politics and economics.
Proficiency with Adobe Suite, with advanced skills in Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator.
Exceptional hand-drawn and/or computer-assisted illustration skills.
Strong video editing skills.

NYC Pay Range: $100,000 - $250,000
