Our New York Office is currently seeking a Mechanical Tunnel Vent Engineer to join ourteam and aid its growth. Our team works on projects that are local, regional, and even around the globe. You’d be joining our multi-disciplinary team or engineers, designers, and consultants who have delivered local projects like the 2nd Avenue Subway, Little Island, and the Fulton Street Center.

The Opportunity:

  • Design of mechanical systems with an emphasis on the problems of ventilation of underground stations and tunnels as well as vehicular tunnels.

  • Design of tunnel ventilation systems including fans, sound attenuators, ductwork, dampers, etc. from concept to detailed design.

  • Analysis of subway networks using Subway Environment Simulation (SES) software

  • Development of CFD modeling techniques to size, evaluate and optimize tunnel ventilation strategies for sub-surface transit systems. Carry out simulations. Analyze and assess the physical meaning, consistency, and accuracy of the CFD results. Generate detailed reports of findings.

  • Coordinate and partner with tunneling, fire safety and mechanical experts internally and externally to deliver on project work.

  • Support fire & life safety, tunnel ventilation, and station ventilation design for both normal and emergency conditions

  • Site measurement to verify and validate conditions as well as construction phase services and commissioning

  • Presenting technical material in traditional and innovative ways for review by technical and non-technical audiences

The Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, Master’s degree preferred

  • 4 or more years of experience designing mechanical and ventilation systems for underground structures.

  • Familiarity with CFD codes for building physics applications

  • Knowledge of heat transfer and fluid dynamics

  • EIT or PE license is preferred or ability to obtain after joining

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working

  • Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels

Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in New York is $90,600 to $115,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of New York will differ.
